PRODUCT REVIEW: PHYSICIANS FORMULA: CUSHION FOUNDATION, ARGAN WEAR BLUSH AND BRONZE BOOSTER

One of those drugstore brands I've got a soft spot for is Physicians Formula, not least to their always cute packaging, I mean who can resist gorgeously packed products!! Today I've put a selection of their products to the test..

Let's start with the Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free All-in-1 ABC Cushion Foundation. And I love Cushion Foundations. As someone who always prefers a liquid foundation over say a powder one, I just think that the whole concept is incredible. Most brands seems to have a cushion foundation in their range by now, but this one from Physicians Formula is definitely one of the prettiest ones with its turquoise quilted designed packaging.

And like all other Cushions I've tried, this one also have an internal compartment with an extra seal to ensure it doesn’t dry out, and it comes with a sponge to dose and apply. The foundation has a very light mineral formula and claims to be an all in one offering airbrushing, blurring and correcting properties, while also adding hydration to the skin and having a smoothing and firming effect.

The foundation has a light to medium coverage, which can be built up slightly, and thus does cover minor imperfections such as lighter pigmentation, blemishes and redness, though I do feel that I need to use a more heavy duty concealer to cover the massive dark circles under my eyes I've been sporting lately. But that said, I do love the dewy finish of this foundation and the fact that it makes my skin look very natural, and I can see myself purchasing this again.

Then there's the Physicians Formula Argan Wear Blush, which is so pretty thanks to its Moroccan inspired embossing of the powder. Absolutely stunning with a mix of pink shades with gold glitter. The gold glitter on top is luckily just sitting on top of the powder and once you’ve used it a few times, it is more or less gone, - although I have to admit to trying to scrape it off, as I have to say that I prefer it without the gold as I find it a little too much - well, at least I think it is on my ageing skin, and I much prefer just a subtle amount of shimmer and not the intense shine and glitter that the gold gives. The Neutral shade has various paler shades of pink with a brighter one in the centre. It is fairly pigmented, so you can easily build up the colour, while also blend it out to be quite understated and sheer. Once you get rid of the golden glitter on top, the blush gives you a nice but subtle sheen and a healthy radiance thanks to light reflecting pigments

The blush comes in slightly bulky gold plastic compacts, which includes a mirror and also a small brush hidden in a compartment underneath the blush. Personally I prefer applying blush with my own better quality and larger brushes, and I rarely apply blush on the go, so I would have preferred to see a smaller more slimline packaging and not have the brush included.

Finally, there's the Physicians Formula Bronze Booster, which claims to be a bronzer with benefits. These benefits are thanks to the Glow Activator Technology, which is an infusion of vitamins, moisturisers and antioxidants, including;

  • Kapi Kacchu, seeds and Phospholipids, that moisturises while helping extend the life of the tan glow
  • Ceratonia Siliqua, that works with the skin to naturally enhance a healthy-looking bronze glow
  • Vitamin C & E, potent antioxidants that help to improve skin's clarity and radiance

The actual bronzer is quite light and it blends quickly and easily and does give the skin a nice even and glowing, yet natural looking tan, that can be built up if required. To be honest, I am not really sure that I can really see that using the bronzer is extending the life of my tan, or improve my skin's clarity and radiance as it also promises... But regardless, the bronzer does wear quite well throughout the day, without fading or changing colour. Often I find that bronzers are either too matte or too shimmery and glittery, so I quite like that this one just gives the skin a nice natural sheen.

Compared to other products from the range, this bronzer comes in a very 'simple' compact, that is transparent brown, but with a sun symbol inside the packaging, which you'll also find embossed onto the actual powder. And while it is quite simple, it is still very stunning, and the bronze colour very appropriate. Like the blush above, it the packaging is slightly bulky to again allow for the internal mirror and the small brush that is hidden in a compartment underneath the blush. Yet again, I prefer applying blush with my own better quality and larger brushes, but guess, at least I'd be more likely to apply a bronzer on the go, so the brush could be useful in that case, though I'd still prefer a slimmer packaging and no brush included.

So there you go, a selection of Physicians Formula products. I really enjoyed using all, and will continue to use them, though the highlight for me was definitely the Cushion Foundation.

PRODUCT REVIEW: KLIM SKINCARE FOR MEN BY MICHAEL KLIM FOR MILK AND CO

Today I've got one for the men, as my hubby has put a selection of products from KLIM to the test..

If you haven't heard of the brand KLIM before, it is a skincare range for men by Michael Klim, the Australian Olympian Swimming Champion. Common for all products are that they are made in Australia from 95% naturally derived ingredients.

The KLIM FRESHEN Face + Body Scrub, is a great multi-tasking product which my hubby really likes. It is made with nori seaweed, spirulina, aloe vera, and walnut shell, along with marine ingredients, to help regulate the skin, provide anti-aging and anti-bacterial properties to treat wounds and minor skin infections while soothing the skin, all while exfoliating and giving the skin a deep cleanse.

The scrub is intended to be used every few days, and is gentle enough not to irritate the skin, yet coarse enough to buff away any dead skin cells and leave the skin soft and smooth. My hubby is not huge on using body scrubs, but he's enjoying using it in the shower on his face and neck. He also love the subtle yet masculine scent.

The KLIM WASH Face Wash is intended to help gently cleanse the sin, unplug clogged pores to prevent breakouts, thanks to containing mineral extracts and essential oils, yet without drying out the skin. It is made using rosemary, peppermint, Nori and spirulina extracts which among others help moisturise the skin and support healthy collagen while fighting off skin-damaging free radicals, provide anti-aging and anti-bacterial properties, while having a refreshing and cooling feeling on the skin, thanks to the peppermint, which also gives it the nice fresh scent, which also helps give the skin kick-start in the morning.

Finally, the KLIM HYDRATE Face Moisturiser + Sunscreen SPF15 is a daily moisturiser containing brown and green algae, and vitamins A, B and E to help nourish and protect the skin, and provide anti-ageing benefits at the same time. This moisturiser is quite light, and so it is easy to spread over the skin and it absorbs quickly. Yet it is quite moisturising. My hubby has pretty normal skin which does tend to become a little dry on the cheeks and chin where he shaves, but this moisturiser manages to keep his skin soft and smooth. It is initially a little greasy, but I think that is common for most SPF, but once absorbed fully into the skin it doesn't feel or look greasy at all. It has a gorgeous masculine scent thanks to the added rosemary and mint, though this scent does tend to fade. My hubby is not to fussed (typical male?!),but personally I would have preferred if it had come with at least SPF30 for a better protection of the harsh Aussie sun.

But regardless, these are great products, which are lovely to use, smell great and live up to their claims, and are very budget friendly too. And you can only love the simplistic packaging with the square white bottles and grey lids too.

KLIM Freshen Face + Body Scrub - RRP: $14.95 / 375m
KLIM WASH Face Wash - RRP: $12.95 / 150ml
KLIM HYDRATE Face Moisturiser + Sunscreen SPF15 - RRP: $19.95 / 150ml

Available from Milk & Co

PRODUCT REVIEW: URBAN RITUELE SCENTED OFFERINGS - GRATITUDE DIFFUSER AND HAPPINESS SOY CANDLE

I love when my house smells nice, and one of those brands I can always rely on for quality home scents is Urban Rituelle. And not long ago, they launched their newest collection, the Scented Offerings.

This new Scented Offerings collection from Urban Rituelle is drawing on a rich blend of scents to ignite your mood and illuminate your heart, with each product intended as a gift of optimism and a thoughtful expression of gratitude.

Having two big dogs inside, I love having a few fragrance diffuser placed strategically placed around the house, for a nice scent to welcome you, and which can spread throughout the house, and disguise any dog odour, or even cooking smells.

The Urban Rituelle Gratitude A Thankful Heart Fragrance Diffuser is designed to warm your heart and fill your home in scented ambience. Capturing the uplifting scent of aquatic marine, sage and bergamot, the natural fibre reeds will continuously release a clean, pure fragrance throughout your space to instantly lift your mood.

And it really has such a gorgeous fresh aqua scent, that is not too heavy, no doubt thanks to the aquatic marine. The stunning yet very simple white glass diffuser bottle looks amazing, and it comes with 8 diffusing reeds, and I really love that they are black, as it not only makes them stand out, but white bottle wit the black reeds also fits perfectly into my monochrome styled home. It diffuses scent up to 4-6 months depending on air conditions. The scent is quite strong still, and personally I find it more than sufficient to just use 4 reeds, which in turn makes the scent slightly more subtle. I also turn the reeds once or twice a week to maintain the scent.

I have also been loving the Urban Rituelle Candle, Happiness Smile Often, Laugh Loudly Candle, with Lemongrass and Mandarin, to help you 'laugh a little louder and smile a little brighter, as you soak up the scented delights of this candle'. The natural pure soy wax candle has two cotton wicks, and the scent is absolutely divine. You only need to take up the lid to smell the gorgeous scent from lemongrass, mandarin and zesty lime, which is so fresh, fruity and uplifting. And you only need to burn it for a few moments before this beautiful scent spreads throughout your house. I am so in love with this scent, but thankfully it will last me a massive 80 hours.

It also comes in a white glass jar with a metal lid, that looks absolutely amazing, and will perfect for re-using again for little knickknacks, a pot for a little plant, or even your makeup brushes.

Seriously, these products from Urban Rituelle are so divine. Their quality is so high, they smell incredible, look amazing, so do your self a favour add go check them out. Along with Gratitude and Happiness, there's a few other gorgeous scents in this collection, including Believe, Celebrate, Love and Comfort, though I have to admit I never can resist zesty citrus scents, so Happiness would be my personal favourite.

Urban Rituelle Gratitude Diffuser - RRP: $41.95 / 190ml
Urban Rituelle Happiness Soy Candle - RRP: $41.95 / 400g
