Product Review: L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Luminosity Day Serum

Having increasing pigmentation, I was very excited when the L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Luminosity Day Serum launched. Here are my thoughts on the serum:

What they say:
"A luxurious, light-infusing Day Cream developed for women aged 25-35 who want even skin tone and more luminous, youthful skin".

RRP: $35.95 - Available from Priceline and most chemists.

What I say:
The serum comes in a sleek metallic silver box, and inside the simple pump bottle in white metallic looks very luxurious and appealing. I love that it comes with a pump bottle as it is so much more hygienic than a jar, and it is s so much easier to use.

I have combination skin with tendency for breakouts, so I am always worried when introducing a new skincare product, and even more so if it’s a concentrated serum. So I started out only using a . little and soon found that ¾ to 1 full pump of cream was more than sufficient to cover my full face. And after having used the serum for a few weeks, I am pleased to say that it has not made my skin break out.
The serum has a pearlescent white look to it, and it quickly absorbs into the skin, without leaving behind any greasy residue. Afterwards the skin is left feeling smooth, soft, moisturised and looking luminous. The serum has a nice and pleasant fruity scent, which is still subtle and not too empowering.

As with all serums, I followed with applying my usual moisturiser; day cream during the day, and night cream at night time. During the day, I also used makeup, including primer and foundation, and did not find that it had any negative effect on the staying power of my makeup, rather I found that it made an excellent base. For those with oilier skin types, I could imagine that the serum on its own would be more than sufficient, with no need to use moisturiser as well.
Apart from the instant glow and sheen you get from applying the serum, I am starting to feel that my skin is look a tiny bit more even in its tone, it is thoroughly moisturised and more healthy looking, although I’m yet to see any major difference to my pigmentation. However, it does state on the box that effects will not be visible until after a 1 month of use, so given I have not quite used this for a month, and I do see some minor improvements to my skin, I am excited about what continuous use will do to my skin.

As only one pump of serum is used, a bottle will last you at least a couple of months, so at $35.95 I find that it is good value for money, considering the results that I have already seen. Other serums on the market with similar claims, are three times as expensive, but whether the results are three times as good, can be discussed. As for long term use, so far things are looking bright for the L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Luminosity Day Serum, and is a great option for those on a budget.

Have you tried the Luminosity Serum? What's your preferred product in the combat against pigmentation?

My Top 5: Favourite Beauty Oils

Years ago I couldn’t imagine using oil for anything but cooking, and with combination skin, often prone to breakouts, definitely not on my face.

Fast track a few years, and I have countless of beauty oils in my bathroom cabinet, as I have realised how beneficial these oils are for skin, body, hair and nails, and yes even for my face.
Here are my favourites..

Kosmea Rosehip Oil
I have tried a few other brands of rose hip oil, and I can honestly say that this one from Kosmea so far is the best one of them all!! If you haven’t seen my full review, you can see it here.

I use it only at night, as I feel it is too intense to use during the day under makeup. Just a few drops before my moisturiser, even around the eye area, and the next morning I wake to a skin that is soft, smooth and thoroughly moisturised. It is just glowing and radiant.
My pigmentation has started to fade, and the fine lines on my forehead and around my eyes, look as though they have softened in appearance, as have the scarring from past acne.

Using just a few drops at a time, the 20ml bottle will last you a long time so it is very affordable for such an effective product.

RRP: $24.95 (20ml) – available from Priceline, chemist and Kosmea

Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil
I absolutely love this body oil, which comes in a handy pump bottle. It has a gorgeous yet subtle powdery floral scent of rose hip. It absorbs quickly into my skin leaving without leaving my skin sticky or greasy, rather it leaves soft and thoroughly moisturised, and with a nice sheen. And as it has significantly reduced the appearance of stretch marks and scars.

This oil is also perfect to add into a running bath, and afterwards my skin is left hydrated and silky soft.

RRP: $17.95 (150ml) - Available from Priceline and chemists.

Grown Body Serum with Ylang Ylang, Tamanu & Omega 7
The Grown Body Serum  is very light in texture, and it absorbs quickly into the skin without staining my clothing with oil marks, leaving my skin feeling thoroughly moisturised, soft and glowing , yet without making it feel greasy or sticky.

It is beautifully scented with essential oils rather than synthetic perfume, and it has a gorgeous and natural citrusy/woody/floral fragrance.

And I love that it is made from 100% certified organic ingredients, which are free from lauryl sulphate, glycols, petrochemicals, artificial fragrance, animal derivatives, T.E.A., D.E.A, synthetic colours, silicones and parabens.
RRP: $43.95 (100ml) - Available from Grown

David Babaii Miracle Oil

Having now tried several different hair oils, ranging in price from $9.95 to over $60, I have now concluded that the Miracle Oil from David Babaii is my absolute favourite. If you haven’t seen my full review, you can see it here.

The Miracle Oil is one of the few hair oils that I have come across that does not contain harmful toxins, silicone, sulphates, parabens and petrochemicals.
Just a few pumps of the oil after washing my hair, it is so much easier to comb my long and thick hair, and it leaves it soft, shiny and very moisturised.

I also use the oil as both as a protector prior to heat styling my hair, but also as a shine serum on the days that I do not wash my hair, and the product is making my hair look shiny and healthy while it smooths down any frizz.

RRP: $29.95 (120ml) - Available from Priceline and David Babaii

Jojoba Oil

The Jojoba oil is such a versatile oil that can be used to It moisturise and nourishes ageing skin, as as a massage oil. It easily removes all traces of even waterproof make-up, without rubbing or pulling and leaving the delicate area soft and moisturised.

It also works brilliantly as a hair treatment to condition dry hair, and as a nail and cuticle oil, it leaves cuticles hydrated and healthy.

The best part is that Australian made 100% Natural Australian Jojoba contains no harmful detergents, chemicals, parabens, artificial fragrances, colours, PEGs, mineral oils, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), or animal products. This Jojoba oil is truly an essential multi-tasker that should be kept in every bathroom.

RRP: $29.95 (30ml) - Available from The Jojoba Company

Have you tried any of these oils? Which one is your favourite one?

Product Review: griffin + row Nourish

Always looking for the perfect moisturiser that agrees with my combination skin, after trying the griffin + row Natural Skin Moisturiser, Nourish, here are my thoughts:

What they say:

"A rich, nurturing natural skin moisturiser that provides your skin all day protection. Formulated with centess complex for increased resistance to skin ageing".

Price: $32.99 (75ml) – Available from griffin + row

What I say:

Increasingly concerned with what’s in all the beauty products that I use, I was very excited to see that the griffin + row Natural Skin Moisturiser Nourish, is it is free from harmful chemicals, and contains no parabens, SLS, or synthetic preservatives, artificial colours or fragrances, as well as it is not tested on animals.

Instead the moisturiser contains a cocktail of pure plant extract, from six active ingredients which together target four signs of ageing; lack of oxygenation, free radical damage, lack of hydration and diminished collagen. In addition, Nourish also contains aloe vera leaf juice, macadamia oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, rosemary extract, natural vitamin E, and shea nut butter. I instantly feel in love with the sound of that!!

Having combination skin, which often tends to break out, especially if using too heavy, thick or concentrated creams, I was a little worried that my skin would not agree with it.

The cream has a thick and very concentrated texture, and initially it does feel heavy and a bit greasy, however, it quickly absorbs right into the skin, leaving it soft and smooth, with a matte dewy finish. A perfect base for foundation.

I am pleased to say that it so far has not made my skin break out. Rather my skin is soft, and thoroughly moisturised and nourished – It is glowing, clear and healthy looking, and clearly thriving from not being covered in a multitude of chemical nasties! I’m very excited with the thought of what the Nourish cream will do to my skin after prolonged use.

I love the fact that the Nourish cream comes in a squeeze tube is designed to stand on its lid, so that the contents drops down, and you can use every last drop. I also like that it is a tube as it is so much more hygienic than a jar.

As previously mentioned, Nourish is very thick and concentrated, so only a very small amount is needed , which means the large 75ml tube will last you a very long time.

Nourish smells absolutely divine – natural, fresh and a bit zesty, which I really love, - yet it is still very subtle, and far from overwhelming.

All in all, I love knowing that I am not adding more chemicals and harmful nasties to my daily beauty routine than "necessary", and Nourish being a natural product makes me feel good and somewhat healthier too, and for that reason, I do give it a couple of bonus points.

Do you use natural skincare products? Have you tried any of the products from griffin + row?

Product Review: CLEAR Total Nourishing Care Shampoo & Conditioner

The new CLEAR Total Nourishing Care Shampoo & Conditioner, is fronted by Miranda Kerr, and if you can have as healthy and shiny hair is Miranda, then I say that it is definitely worth a try!

Here are my thoughts:

What they say:
"Just as good soil is to a tree, a well nourished scalp is the right foundation for strong, beautiful hair. For years women have been treating the wrong ends of their hair. CLEAR Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy™, made with Nutrium 10™ nourishes your scalp, the right foundation for strong, beautiful hair".

Price: RRP $5.95 - Available from supermarkets and chemists.

What I say:
Having long hair, that I regularly have coloured at the salon, I have to admit that I generally do not buy supermarket shampoos and conditioners, but rather buy the much more expensive professional ones from the hair dresser.
I also have to admit that I not had any issues with my scalp – well except that it does get a little irritated if the shampoo is too perfumed.

As soon as I smelt the CLEAR shampoo I was therefore a bit concerned. While it smells lovely, it is also very strongly perfumed.
The pearly white shampoo is very thick and only a very little is needed to get it to lather into a beautiful creamy froth. After washing my hair felt clean and healthy.

The CLEAR shampoo and conditioner comes in skinny and curvy pastel lilac bottles, which do look very stylish. In spite of them being so tall and skinny, I have however not found any issues with them falling over in the shower, which I initially thought that they would. They have press-to-open lids, which makes them very easy to use in the shower with wet hands.
The conditioner is also very thick yet it spreads easily into the hair. I have to admit that it was a strange feeling having to massage into my scalp, as normally I only condition the ends of my hair. The conditioner has the same beautiful scent as the shampoo, although it is more subtle. The conditioner is easy to rinse out, and does not feel like it leaves behind any residue. Afterwards my hair is so easy to comb, and once I’ve let it dry naturally it feels silky soft and thoroughly moisturised, and it looks healthy and shiny.

I usually wash my hair every second day. But having to use the conditioner on my scalp, I would have imagined that it would make my hair looking greasier on the second day than normal – but two days and one workout later, I have noticed that my roots are not as oily as they usually are.
After using the CLEAR shampoo and conditioner several times, I have to say that I have not noticed any major difference to the health of my scalp – but maybe it is just because it was in a fairly healthy condition to start with. But my hair looks and feels so shiny, moisturised and healthy, with very little frizz and all without feeling weighed down.

Apart from preferring a shampoo and conditioner that are little less perfumed, my only negative is the high number of silicones and sulfates in the shampoo, and I do wish that they were free from these.

However, at just $5.99 per bottle the CLEAR shampoo and conditioner are great value for money, at that price, you have nothing to lose!

Have you tried the CLEAR shampoo and conditioner? What do you look for in a shampoo and conditioner?

Product Review: Kosmea Rose Hip Oil

I have tried quite a few other brands of rose hip oil. Here are my thoughts on the Kosmea Rose Hip Oil:

What they say:
"Rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants, this easily-absorbed oil is a real treat for the skin. It may help smooth wrinkles, even out skin tone, reduce appearance of scars, moisturise and soothe dry skin, nourish and hydrate ageing skin, balance oily skin and reduce the appearance of blemishes. Great for giving that glow to dull, tired skin!"

Price: $24.95/20ml, $44.95/42ml – Available from Kosmea

What I say:

Having combination skin prone to breakouts, I am always worried that a new intensive cream or serum will make my skin breakout, and I’m even more worried when it comes to using oil on my skin. But no need to worry, as it has not made my skin break out, actually it has helped make my skin feel less oily.
I use it only at night, as I feel it is too intense to use during the day under makeup. I apply a few drops before my moisturiser, even around the eye area. And the next morning my skin feel so soft and smooth and thoroughly moisturised. It is just glowing and radiant.

My pigmentation has started to fade, and the fine lines on my forehead and around my eyes look as though they have softened in appearance, as have the scarring from past acne, so I have very high hopes for what this wonder serum will do to my skin with continued use.
Of all the rose hip oils I have tried, Kosmea has the most beautiful scent, it is so divine and pure, I just love it. This product comes in a handy pipette type bottle, which I love as it is not only hygienic, but it also makes it easy to control how much product comes out.

Using just a few drops at a time, the 20ml bottle will last you a long time, so at $24.95 it is so affordable for such an effective product.

I can honestly say that this Rose Hip Oil from Kosmea so far is the best Rose Hip Oil that I have tried.

Do you use Rose Hip Oil? Which one is your favourite?

Product Review: Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturiser

Having combination skin prone to break outs, finding a moisturiser suitable for my ageing skin with both acne scarring and increasing pigmentation is difficult, as many simply make my skin break out.
After trying the Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturiser, here are my thoughts:

What they say:
"Create a more even appearing skin tone while protecting skin from future darkening with high-level UVA/UVB defence. Delivers soothing hydration. Instantly brightens, clarifies skin's appearance".

Price: $90 – Available from Clinique

What I say:

The moisturiser really does helps treat pigmentation, and having now used a full jar of the cream and I can see a clear difference – my dark spots and pigmentation have faded, the past acne scarring has softened, and my skin generally seems brighter and clearer – and all while not causing any breakouts – in fact my skin also seems to be less greasy!!

I absolutely love the Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturiser as it actually does live up  to its claims.

The cream at first seems a little greasy, however, it absorbs quickly, leaving the skin soft and moisturised, and with a matte look. It works perfectly under makeup.

It has a subtle and pleasant scent, which however quickly disappears once the cream has absorbed into the skin. It also has SPF15.

The cream comes in a stylish white jar with a silver lid, and I must admit that I would have preferred if it came in a tube as I find it more hygienic.

At $90 for a 50ml jar, this is not cheap, however as it is very concentrated and you only need a small amount, a jar will last you for quite a long time, an as the results speak for themselves, it is well worth the money.

All in all this really is a fantastic moisturiser, suitable even for those of us with combination skin.
Have you tried any of the Even Better products from Clinique? What’s your current favourite moisturiser?

Dior launches 24-carat gold tattoos

Good news for Dior fans. The French design house has released a limited edition collection of precious golden temporary tattoos, called the "Grand Bal Golden Tattoos.

Source

The jewellery-like creations, includes among others a cuff, delicate ring styles and a pendant, and are made from 24-carat gold leafing. The gold tattoos have been designed by the Dior jewellery designer Camille Miceli.

Source

At this point it does not seem that these accessories are available in Australia (what’s new!!!), but they are available for a limited time through the American retailer Nordstrom for US$120.

While I think these Gold Tattoos look absolutely stunning and very extravagant, and they would be perfect accessories for the upcoming Christmas parties, I personally prefer my jewellery to be a bit more…..permanent!

What do you think do you think of these tattoos? Would you wear temporary tattoos?

Product Review: O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hairspray

Having long hair with some fly-always, I am always looking for a hairspray that will keep my hair under control, give it flexible hold, while not drying it out.

Here are my thoughts on the O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hairspray from Original Mineral:

What they say:
"Set and Forget. Original Queenie is a twist on the stone cold classic. Its flexible hold will survive a hundred and one brush strokes without complaint – no flakes or unwanted stickiness here. Australian native Lilly Pilly extends hold by reducing unwanted oil, while Quandong adds weightless protection to nourish the hair".

Price: $31.95 for 328ml – Available from Adore Beauty

What I say:
Just a few fine sprays of this hairspray, and my hair stays in place and flyaways are controlled, while still allowing my hair to move, yet without drying or weighing it down. The hairspray is perfect for use with brushed out curls as it doesn’t leave my hair hard and sticky, as well as it doesn’t make the hair clump together or make it go stiff.

I also love the fact that it is made from natural ingredients, including Lilly Pilly, which works to absorb oil from the hair, so it in a way also acts as a dry shampoo as well. It also contains Quandong, which moisturises the hair and protects it during heat styling.
Unlike most other hairsprays, it has a beautiful scent, no doubt coming from the natural ingredients in the hairspray. But the scent is still very subtle and far from overpowering, and it quickly fades again.
I also like that the hairspray comes in a stylish hot pink can, it is so girly and fun. But even better, that it has not been tested on animals.

Normally I would only pay between $6-8 for a hairspray, so is it really worth paying $31.95, five time as much, for this hairspray?

All in all, it really is one of the best hairsprays that I have ever used as it keeps my hair styled and under control, yet it looks so natural and is giving my hair a moisture treatment at the same time, so yes, I think it is worth the splurge.

Have you tried this hairspray from O&M? What's the most you have ever paid for a hairspray?
