Product News: OPI’s Glimmer of Hope for Breast Cancer 2013

As most are probably aware, October is always Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and consequently a number of products are always released where some, if not all of the profits are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

This year OPI is supporting breast cancer research with a new limited edition Pink of Hearts 2013 dual pink nail art pack complete with pink ribbon stick-on decals and crystals. 100% of profits will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).

The OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 contains limited-edition 'More than a Glimmer' and OPI’s classic soft pink 'Pink-ing of You', complete with 10 pink ribbon stick-on decals and sparkling crystals.   Each bottle of nail lacquer has a special pink-ribbon cap wrap in support of breast cancer awareness.

'More than a Glimmer' is a unique blend of silver, pink, and teal glitter set in a clear matte base. The result resembles brushed chrome subtly reflecting surrounding colours for a look that commands attention in an understated way.  For optimal matte, brushed chrome finish do not apply top coat.

'Pink-ing of You' is a classic soft pink that truly inspires hope.

I always stock support Breast Cancer, and always make sure to stock up on 'Pink' products in the lead up to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as I absolutely love OPI nail polishes (and how gorgeous are these shades?), that this OPI nail art pack is already on my shopping list..

The OPI Pink of Hearts Nail Art Pack is available from 13th September 2013 from selected salons and David Jones, $24.95 while stocks last.

What do you think of this OPI Nail Art Set? Do you buy 'Pink' products in lead up to Breast Cancer Awareness Month? And what are you planning on getting?

Product Review: Allegra Rhodes Ocean Mist Body Wash

I love shower gels, and I always have as many different body washes as I can fit onto the shelf in my shower, so that I can so I can swap and switch depending on my mood when I shower. So I was very excited when I was asked to trial the *Allegra Rhodes Ocean Mist Body Wash. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
"Indulge your senses and treat yourself daily with this sensual body wash. An awakening blend of Fresh Bergamot and zesty Lemon, rounded with a divine Oceanic Scent. Decadently layered with Jasmine, Rose and slinky tones of Sandalwood. Let the heart notes of Violet beat with Thyme to create this invigorating rapture. It will make you smell enchanting and feel revived."

RRP: $29.95 (450ml) – Available from Allegra Rhodes Online

What I Say:
I recently reviewed the Allegra Rhodes Sweet Apple & Grapefruit Hand and Nail Cream, and absolutely love it because of its beautiful fragrance, so I was so excited to also be trialling the Allegra Rhodes Ocean Mist Body Wash.

Allegra Rhodes "believe that happiness and gorgeousness isn’t reserved only for the special occasions or the rich and famous. Every woman deserves to enjoy true luxury every day, at the tip of her fingers".

The Allegra Rhodes products are made using hand-picked Eau de Parfum based fragrances, which makes them smell outright divine. And on top, they are certified parabens-free and sulphate-free. The company is Australian owned, the products made in Australia, and of course not tested on animals!

The body wash comes in a stylish packaging with a  gorgeous monochrome black and white pattern on the outer box. The box also has pale turquoise sides, which represent this particular scent, while other scents available in the range (Red Lychee, Sweet Apple & Grapefruit and Cherry Blossom) are represented by other colours.

The actual body wash come in a simple but stylish and stylish square bottle, with a black pump. The bottle has simple black product labels, which I really love – ask me, and less is always more, and it makes it look very classy and luxurious.

I also love that the Body Wash comes with a pump (unfortunately that is very rare!), but it just makes it so much easier to use in the shower when you have wet hands, and not to mention, it makes it easier to get just the right amount of body wash needed.

The body wash is white pearlescent, and easily froths up into a nice soft foam – and even more so if a loofah is being used. The scent of the body wash is absolutely amazing, and no doubt coming from among others the zesty Lemon, Jasmine, and Rose extract used. It is fresh and luxurious, and very feminine too (which is a big bonus as then hubby won’t be using it and get it all to myself!!). But in saying that, I do prefer the scent of the Sweet Apple & Grapefruit, as it is simply more zesty and citrusy, which is favourite scent.

But still the Ocean Mist scent smells amazing, and as I use it in the shower it fills my bathroom with the most amazing scent, which lingers for a while, - even later when I return to the bathroom it still smells incredible, just a day spa! This scent also lingers on the skin, even after you’ve dried off after the shower, although nowhere near as strongly scented as the hand cream, but this scent can no doubt be built up to be more long-lasting and also stronger if the matching body lotion is used as well.

In spite of the body wash being perfumed, it doesn’t dry out the skin – rather it is left soft and moisturised, although I still feel I need to follow with a body moisturiser (which I always do, regardless of the body wash I use!)

At $29.95 this is not a cheap body wash, but as it is so luxurious and of such high quality, and you get a 450ml bottle, I find it is well worth the price. It is the perfect treat for when you want to spoil yourself! All in all, another fantastic product from Allegra Rhodes – if you haven’t already tried some of the products, I highly recommend that you do, you won’t be disappointed!

My Beauty Book Haul..

I haven’t been spending much money on myself lately, it has been more fun buying things and clothes for our little boy. Things have settled and we have started going out, and even had a trip to the big shopping centre, Chadstone on our own, where he behaved really well.

But this last week and a bit I haven’t left the house. It’s been a horrible week to be honest...

Last week we too our one of our beautiful Labradors to the vet as we found a lump on her foot. The vet was pretty sure that it was cancer, and the following day, Thursday, she went in for a biopsy, and then we had the long wait until Monday for the results. And with her front leg completely strapped in, I had to stay home to watch her to make sure that she didn’t attack the leg and undo the bandage and the stitches, which she had already done while she was waiting for us to pick her up at the vet, so they had to be re-done.

Monday we got the results, which confirmed that it was cancer, - stage two – so could have been a lot worse, but it could of course also have been a lot better. But at least it was good news as it meant that that they could remove the tumour, and didn’t have to amputate her leg. And the following day, Tuesday she went in for the surgery, we just wanted it done as soon as possible. She came home the same night, groggy and with the whole leg strapped in. But she has been so brave, and in spite of clearly being in pain, she has not once whined or whimpered.
Yesterday she has had all the bandages removed. We had hoped the stitches would go too, but unfortunately they are not being removed until next Sunday. So now with the leg and all the stitches exposed, we have to watch her like hawks to make sure she doesn’t start attacking or even licking the area on her leg too much. And she is such a clever dog, sometimes going up to the other end of the house where we can't see or hear her, just to lick at the leg, that clever little bugger!

But it also means that I best not leave the house for too long this week either, as I simply don’t trust her to leave her leg alone!!

Anyway, back to my haul…. Reading through the weekly junk mail I noticed that Aldi was selling Rae Morris and Napoleon Perdis beauty books last week. And at the bargain price of just $9.95 each! What a bargain… these books sell for least double that price on Amazon!

But what does a girl do when she has a newborn and is also forced to stay at home to care for her sick dog…..send hubby of course. So I asked him to get the two different Rae Morris books pictured in the catalogue – but knowing Aldi, and how quickly they sell out of these things – also because I knew hubby wouldn’t be able to make it to the store until the end of the day – I really didn’t expect to get any of the books at all!

But surprise, surprise – hubby came home from work that night, with not only the two different Rae Morries books, but also the one from Napoleon Perdis as he thought that I’d enjoy that one as well. What a sweetie!!
These are the books I got...

Napoleon Perdis - Forever Flawless

This book does promote the Napoleon Perdis products through some product photos, but regardless it is full of useful tips throughout, including how to do eye colour and contour, how to make thin lips appear larger, how to make large lips appear smaller, how to apply liquid liner,  how to apply foundation, blush and how to contour (see picture).

This is a great book, and I am happy that hubby got if for me as well. I will enjoy reading it. And really, at $9.95 it is not far from the same price as a monthly magazine such as Marie Claire or Vogue, and I will enjoy this book for much longer!!

Rae Morris - Makeup The Ultimate Guide

This book has some amazing pictures, and it shows among others step-by-step how to great a variety of looks from natural eyes, sultry eyes, smoky eyes, and Grecian Eyes (see picture), how to apply blush and contour.

And another thing I really like is that it shows the best makeup looks for the Over 40s…which is (sadly) also of huge relevance to me… So a fantastic book, that I will enjoy looking through again and again.

Rae Morris – Timeless Makeup

Like The Ultimate Guide, Timeless Makeup is full of beautiful pictures and it shows you how to create classic makeup looks though step-by-step guides. It also contains eye colour charts with the colours best suited to your eye colour (see picture), which I find very useful and fascinating.

And wearing glasses I really like the section on wearing glasses and make-up and which makeup you should wear and which glasses best suit the shape of your face. It also teaches how to apply eye makeup, contour, how to make your nose smaller or larger, and a range of makeup looks such as the Beach Babe Look (see picture). Another great book with a lot of useful tips.

What do you think of these books? Did you snap up any of them too? Or maybe you already have some of them? Do you have any other beauty books? Can you recommend any good beauty books worth buying??

Product Review: WotNot Facial Wipes

Once upon a time I had all the time in the world to dedicate to my skincare regime. That all changed just over a month ago when I gave birth to our beautiful son Oliver (if you’ve missed the pics, you can see them here).
Before then I have to be very honest and admit that I rarely used facial wipes. I usually just bought them to bring with me on long haul flights. But now having a newborn, I now either do sadly not have the time to wash my face properly, or if I’m lucky that Oliver is already sleeping, then I am simply too tired to do so, and just can’t get into bed fast enough. And that’s where I’ve discovered that facial wipes are so handy. Here are my thoughts on the *WotNot Facial Wipes;

What They Say:
"WotNot facial wipes use a 100% natural cloth which is luxuriously soft and pampering. Our formula is enriched with all natural ingredients."

RRP: $7.95 (25 wipes) – Available from Eco Direct, select health stores and pharmacies nationwide.

What I Say:
I have never before used any products from WotNot, so I was pleasantly surprised when I realised that WotNot has the belief that "facial skin is so delicate that only the most natural ingredients should be used in facial case products."

This means that the WotNot facial wipes are made from 100% natural and biodegradable fibre cloth which enriched with all natural ingredients including Australian certified organic aloe vera to lubricate and repair, certified organic sweet almond oil to restore lost moisture and calm itch and inflammation, and certified organic rosehip oil for skin regeneration and moisture re-balancing. The certified organic jojoba oil base is easily absorbed to condition skin and eyelids making lashes more lush, while the naturally sourced nutrients like Vitamin E help to heal, nourish and protect leaving the skin smooth, supple and glowing.

The wipes are of course also free from alcohol and artificial perfumes, and do not contain parabens and petrochemicals, and of course the products are not tested on animals!

WotNot claims that the wipes gently wipes away any makeup including waterproof mascara, which is a very big claim. Often liquid eye makeup removers even struggle removing waterproof mascara!!

The actual wipes come in a plastic back with a resealable sticker so that the wipes don’t dry out. The square white cloths are large in size, making it easy to wipe over the full face, and they are sufficiently wet to wipe the whole face, yet not so wet that they drip with moisture.

And true to the claim they really do easily remove even long-wearing makeup and waterproof mascara. Having sensitive eyes that easily water, I usually wear waterproof mascara, but is always aware of the tear and wear of my lashes when I struggle to remove it at night. So I am really loving that these WotNot wipes remove any trace without me having to pull and drag at the sensitive eye area. And they do so without stinging in my eyes either.

And after wiping off my makeup, my skin feels lovely and soft and refreshed, and without feeling died out from the wipe. And my skin doesn’t feel sticky or greasy either.

The wipes has the most gorgeous scent, not doubt due to the natural ingredients used in the wipes. Yet this scent is quite gentle, and it does fade quickly after use.

At $7.95 for just 25 wipes, these WotNot wipes are more expensive than others on the market, which are not only cheaper, but also contain more wipes per pack. However, none of these cheaper alternatives are 100% natural and biodegradable and enriched with all natural ingredients, and I find that is well worth paying a little extra for.

So overall, I have really enjoyed using these wipes. They will never replace and cleanse your skin as thoroughly as good a job as good old fashioned cleanser, however, they really are handy to have at hand for those days where you like me just have to get to bed as quickly as possible, or maybe just cannot be bothered with a draw out cleansing routine. So I highly recommend that you try them, especially if you are looking for a more natural alternative, and if you have sensitive skin these will be perfect for you too!

Product Review: Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus Cream

I have always struggled with my skin. Combination skin with frequent breakouts, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve also added pigmentation to the list. Consequently I have always preferred to use foundations with at least a medium coverage, in order to cover any blemishes and pigmentation. But then I got pregnant, and although I had feared the opposite, by skin actually cleared up, and has never been clearer. So I realised that now I too could enjoy using the ever so popular BB Creams, and achieve a more natural makeup look. Here are my thoughts on the *Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus Cream;

What They Say:
"Featuring anti-ageing actives like Renovage® to help visibly revive skin. Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus may reduce the appearance of: fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, blemishes, dry dehydrated skin, dark circles, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone AND MORE!"
Available in 3 adjustable shades: Fair, medium and dark

RRP: $39 (40ml) – Available from Selected Myer and selected salons, chemists and pharmacies.

What I Say:
The Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus 7 in 1 Complexion Correction Balm with Renovage claims to be an absolute multi-tasker, helping to firm, tone, and brighten your skin smoothing and refining the appearance of visible pores, fine lines and wrinkles.

In addition it is formulated with a unique anti-ageing complex featuring Renovage and a biomimetic tetrapeptide which may help to restructure the skin for reducing the appearance of sun damage, fine line and wrinkles, enlarged pores, slackened skin and elasticity, dry dehydrated skin and uneven skin tone. Sounds pretty good to me!

I instantly liked the look of this Skin Physics BB Cream. It comes in a gorgeous red tube with a pump, which I am always in favour of as it makes it easy to get just the amount of cream you need.

The actual cream is quite light, and is very easy to blend into the skin using my fingers. I tried shade Medium, which is a perfect match for my medium being skin tone.

The Cream absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving my skin feeling moisturised, yet without feeling or looking greasy. My sin is left nice and soft, and with a healthy glow and a dewy look.

My skin tone is definitely evened out, but as it has a light coverage, it means that larger marks and pigmentation are still very visible, and a concealer is required to hide these. But in saying that, the coverage of the BB cream can be built up slightly, while still giving a natural look.

Having combination skin, unfortunately it does not stay put all day as by mid-day, my t-zone is shining a fair bit and a touch up is required. However, when using a primer first and also using a powder on top the morning it does stay put for longer before a touch up is required.
Skin Physics claims that this BB Cream is a 7 in 1 cream – but does it live up to its claims?

In regards to keeping the skin hydrated, it definitely ticks that box. As soon as I’ve applied the cream, but skin feels thoroughly hydrated. And when I remove it at night, my skin feels soft and smooth and very moisturised, almost as if I have just removed a moisture mask! Yet it does so without making my skin feel clogged up or congested, and after using this BB cream for a while, I have also not noticed any increase in breakouts, which I am otherwise prone to (and which other BB creams have caused!).

On refining the appearance of visible pores, fine lines and wrinkles, as the BB Cream is so moisturising, it also means that the cream doesn’t settle into these fine lines and wrinkles, and at least don’t aggravate them making them look worse than they are. But as for long-term and permanent effects, I am yet to notice any.

As for reducing the appearance of sun damage and assisting with uneven skin tone, and covering enlarged pores, the light coverage of the BB Cream does even out my skin tone and cover pigmentation, although darker spots are not completely hidden. And again, I am yet to notice any long-term and permanent effects.

Nevertheless, it is a lovely BB Cream, and although it has such a light coverage, I really like how it makes my skin feel so soft and look so glowing. And I really like that it contains SPF15, although an even higher SPF never goes astray.

At $39, I find that this is a reasonable price for a BB Cream with anti-ageing properties, also because with 40ml in the tube, it is larger than most other BB Creams or foundations, which usually only come in 30ml tubes. It works great for my combination skin, and because it is so moisturising, I can only imagine that it would also work very well for those with drier skin types as well. I highly recommend that you try it, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Lust Have It Autumn Eco Box + Giveaway

When I started trying to get pregnant, I started getting more and more into natural skincare products, and since then I have discovered some amazing brands and products. Each quarter Lust Have It has a new Eco Box full of natural beauty products. Here are my thoughts on the Autumn edition of the Lust Have It Eco Box;

What They Say:
"Each quarter a new box will be sent to your home. Each box valued at over $100 for just $29.95, and each box contains 6 to 8 hand-selected premium samples of natural or organic products."

RRP: $29.95 – but read on to find out how to get a discount on your first box..
Available from Lust Have It

What I Say:

I was quite impressed with the June Lust Have it box, so I have been looking so forward to receiving this Eco Box, to see what it is all about, and to get to explore some more natural beauty products.

Unlike the Lust Have It box, the Eco Box actually doesn’t come in a box, rather the beauty goodies come in a small hessian sack. This is very cute and very in line with the eco theme of the product. However, in saying that, I am not sure what I would actually do with the hessian sack.

So what was in the Autumn edition of the Lust Have It Eco Box;

Savi Australia Organic Body Cream – 20ml sample ($49.95, 220ml)

This is on body cream with pure organic ingredients chosen for their individual healing properties. The cream itself comes in a small (and cute) pump bottle, which I do like. It has a gorgeous and natural scent, just like you’d expect from a natural product.

I have to be honest and admit that I’ve never heard of the brand Savi before, so I do look forward to trying this one out.

Pretty Serious Nail Enamel in Mummy Mush - Full size (RRP $9.95, 11ml)

Like most other girls, I love nail polish, so it is a nice surprise to see on in a subscription box. And especially seeing it is a full sized nail polish, and as it is 3-free as well. Just what I like. I got the colour Mummy Mush, which is a creamy colour with gold glitter. According to the info card, the colours were supposed to be autumn colours, and I’m not quite sure that would classify Mummy Mush as such, but regardless it does look like a gorgeous colour that I’d be happy to wear as we head towards spring (and also it is a colour that is so different from any other nail polishes that I currently have).

ELF Mineral Eyeshadow in Socialite – Full size (RRP $5.99)

I have never tried any of the products from ELF, so I am very excited to be trying this one out. The loose eye shadow is 100% mineral based with no parabens, preservatives or chemicals, which I really like the sound off. And the colour, Socialite is a lovely dark chocolate brown with a bit of shimmer, which is right up my alley too, so I can’t wait to be trying this one out.

Alfaparf Milano Anti-Frizz Oil Shampoo & Ant-Frizz Mask – Sachet samples, 10ml each (RRP Shampoo $26, 250ml, Mask $30, 200g).

Alfaparf Milano Absolute Oil – sample 10ml (RRP $39, 100ml)

I have not heard of this Italian brand before, but I look forward to trying these new products which contains Pequi Oil and Prickly Pear Oil claiming to help tame even the most rebellious and frizzy hair. The products are all free from parabens and colours, which I do love. And in spite of the shampoo and mask being sachet samples, they are still large enough to be sufficient for my long hair.

As well as the 10ml sample, there is also a sachet sample of this oil, which is great, giving you the opportunity to trial the oil several times.

McArthur Complete Skincare Cream - Full size (RRP $54.95, 250ml)

Another brand that I have never ever heard of before. But according to the details, this cream is packed full of vitamins, antioxidants and enzymes to soothe skin and help relieve redness or dryness.

Tom McArthur himself describes it as liquid gold, as it will leave your skin feeling naturally healthy and beautiful. While I do not suffer from any skin conditions, or have particular dry skin, I do look forward to trying it, as I am sure it will be fantastic to use on dry winter legs as well. And very impressed to be receiving a full sized product.

Wotnot Nautral Facial Wipes – Full sized (RRP $15, 25 wipes)

I have to be honest and admit that I have not been using facial wipes for very long. It used to be something that I would just buy to use when I do my annual trip to Europe to visit my family, that I would find them handy to cleanse my face during the long haul flights. But since giving birth to our beautiful son just over a month ago, I am not so tired at night that I have realised how handy these wipes are. I have heard of Wotnot before, but not tried them, so I am very excited about these and can’t wait to try them out, also knowing that they contain nothing but completely natural nourishing ingredients including certified organic rosehip oil, aloe vera and sweet almond oil. And again very excited to be receiving a full sized product.

Overall, I am very pleased and impressed with the Autumn Lust Have it Eco box. It contains a fantastic selection of products that I am excited to be trying, and considering it contains a full sized body lotion worth $54.95, a full sized nail polish worth $9.95, and also a full sized pack of face wipes worth $15, the box is definitely worth the $29.95

Now, this box was sent to me for consideration, but I have to admit that with the quality and value of these products, I am now very very temped to subscribe to future boxes…

Product Review: Eleven Australia Make Me Shine Spray Gloss

I have long and thick hair, which has been coloured countless times, and not to mentioned stressed out by daily sessions with the hair dryer and heat straightener. And to top it off, just a month ago I gave birth to our beautiful son Oliver (you can see the pics here if you missed them!), and as everyone has kept telling me, the changing hormones raging through my body will be sure to show too in the condition of my hair. And sadly they were right. My hair does feel more dry and doesn’t look as healthy as it usually does. So I was excited to be putting the *Eleven Australia Make Me Shine Spray Gloss to the test. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
"A lightweight finishing spray to control flyaways & add shine. For all hair types."

RRP: $22.95 (145g) – Available from Eleven Australia Online

What I Say:

I recently reviewed the Eleven Australia Miracle Treatment, which truly is a fantastic miracle product, so I was looking forward to and had high hopes for the Make Me Shine Gloss Spray as well.

Eleven Australia products are Australian made and owned. The company is an exciting new venture from leading haircare distributor Ozdare, developed with Creative Directors, Joey Scandizzo, three times Australian Hairdresser of the Year, and Andrew O’Toole, esteemed hair and fashion photographer in Australia and the UK.

Eleven Australia is driven from a desire for a fresh, uncomplicated and affordable solution to haircare products, made from high performance ingredients, but without the excessive price tag - “healthy, beautiful hair has never been so simple and affordable.” All sounds pretty good to me.

Having long and straight hair, some of the hair products I rely on are products which reduce the flyaways, that I have particularly around my face, and add shine to make my hair look and feel healthier. Make Me Shine does all that.

After washing and styling my hair, I simply add a quick spray of the Make Me Shine, and it smooth over my hair with my hands to tame the flyaways, and the results are amazing. The flyaways really are controlled, and my hair is left with the most amazing shine, yet in spite of being a finishing product, the spray gloss is lightweight and my hair is not left feeling stiff and sticky like some finishing products and hairsprays do. When I use it, my hair looks so shiny and glossy, and it brings out the colours in my hair so it looks like I’ve just had my hair re-coloured!

The Make Me Shine comes in a typical aerosol hairspray can, white with simple yet stylish pink writing on it. Compared to a hairspray it is smaller, but don’t be fooled, just a quick spray will do the trick, so the spray will last you a long time. It has a nice floral scent, which however does fade a little once the product has dried in the hair.

All in all this is a great multi-tasking product, as no longer do I have to add both a gloss serum to give my hair shine, and then follow with a finishing spray to tame those annoying flyaways. At $22.95 it comes at a great price for such a high quality salon product. So if your hair is looking dull and needs a boost, then I highly recommend that you try it. I for one am in love with this product, it truly does make my hair shine!! Well done Eleven!
