Product Review: ELES Liquid Lustre in Tempest

I used to mainly wear lipsticks, but currently being a stay-at-home mum with our 14 week old son, I have taken a more casual approach to my makeup and consequently been using more lipglosses. Here are my thought son the * ELES Liquid Lustre in Tempest;

What They Say:

"An intense lip plumper and lip gloss that imparts a beautiful sparkle and shine to create sensuous and seriously sexy lips without stinging or tingling. Unique Lip Plumping Peptide Complex instantly reshapes the mouth for dramatic volume while infused diamond particles create a translucent 3D effect. Paraben free and fragrance free."

RRP: $37.50 (5g) – Available from ELES Mineral Makeup Online

What I Say:

I have recently fallen for the makeup from ELES including the Mineral Eye Shadow, the Powder Liner and especially the Mineral Blush, and with this lipgloss the love affair continues.

I love that the ELES is mineral makeup free of heavy fillers and pore-clogging ingredients. The products contain no chemical ‘nasties’ or potential irritants, such as fragrance, talc, oil and dyes, but contain added natural ingredients.

While I do like wearing a brighter coloured lip gloss that with a neutral and casual makeup look to make my lips pop, I also love the look of a god neutral lip.

The ELES Liquid Lustre in Tempest is a pale peachy-pink colour in the tube, but once on the lips this colour doesn’t show much, rather you can see a lovely sheen and shine – and while I am not overly fond of too shiny or glittery lip glosses (or other makeup for that matter), the ELES Liquid Lustre has just the right amount of sheen, so it also looks great used on top of a lipstick.

The Liquid Lustre lipgloss comes in a sleek square plastic tube with a black lid holding the small brush applicator so it is fairly easy to apply, although it has a slightly thick formula, so I think it would possibly have been easier to apply and spread if it had had a sponge applicator. The lipgloss it is so lovely to wear, feeling very moisturising on the lips but without making the lips feel sticky.

The lipgloss is containing “Lip Plumping Peptide Complex instantly reshapes the mouth for dramatic volume”, but I have to say that I am not quite sure that I feel that it really does give a dramatic plumping effect. But in saying that the nice sheen does make the lips appear a little fuller.

Lipglosses are not known for staying put for long, yet it does have a fairly good staying power of a few hours before it needs to be reapplied, although it has to be reapplied sooner if I eat or drink anything.

What I Like:
  • The sleek packaging
  • That it doesn’t contain any chemical nasties, but rather natural ingredients
  • That it has a lovely sheen without being over the top
  • Fantastic on its own, but also perfect to use on top of a lipstick

What I Don’t Like:
  • That it is a little pricey
  • Not readily available, it can only available online or through select outlets

At $37.50 the lipgloss is a little expensive, but as I love how it looks on my lips, how comfortable it is to wear, and not least that it is free from chemical nasties, which I feel is worth paying extra for, I feel it is worth the higher price tag.

Product Review: Lust Have It – September Box...and October Teaser..

Yesterday I came home from being out to find a lovely surprise waiting for me at the front door – the September Lust Have It Box. This was completely unexpected, I reviewed the June and July boxes, so I had not expected to be reviewing any further boxes, so imagine my surprise when I spotted it there. Here are my thoughts of the contents of the *September Lust Have It Box, and read on for a teaser of what you’ll find in the October box..

What They Say:
"Lust Have It boxes regularly contains products worth $60+ for only $19.95/month! Monthly box filled with 5 to 6 premium beauty samples. Delivered to your home or work each month for you to try."

RRP: Lust Have It Box (monthly) RRP: $19.95, Eco Box (quarterly) RRP: $29.95 – but if you use my unique code LIFESTYLE at the checkout you can get $5 off your first box from Lust Have It. - Available from Lust Have It.

What I Say:

As per pervious months, the September box pretty pale blue and beige floral printed box, with a magnetic closure, making it perfect for reusing to store other small items such as sachet samples, jewellery etc.

The September Lust Have It July box is using ‘Spring Fling’ as its theme, although I am not quite sure that I find the items in the box particularly spring minded, but anyway, this is what was in the September Lust Have It Box;

Wotnot Natural Organic Facial Wipes – Sample pack with 5 wipes (RRP: $7.95/25 wipes)

I know that facial wipes are all the hype at the moment, but I still don't use them very often, only when I am so tired and wearing no makeup, do I find they are handy, but for removing my makeup I still prefer a cleanser and water!! Except for when I once a year when I embark on the long haul flights to Europe to visit my family, then they are so handy for easily cleaning my face mid-flight. In saying that, I am loving using the WotNot Facial Wipes as well as the WotNot Baby wipes, and the fact that the wipes are organic and free from chemical nasties, and so this small sample pack will certainly be handy for the handbag.

Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover – Sample 29ml (RRP: $22/110ml)

I have never tried any products from Mary Kay, so I am really excited to trial this one out. With sensitive eyes that easily water, I almost always wear waterproof eye makeup, so I look forward to seeing how this one performs and test out if it keeps its promise of removing the makeup easily without the need to tug or pull at the sensitive eye area.

L'Oreal Base Magique Primer – Sample 5ml – (RRP: $29.95/15ml)

I actually only recently started using primers, and have no idea how I can have been living under a rock for so long and not realising what a difference it makes in the staying power and look of my makeup on my combination skin. But I already have this in a full size, - but I like it, so I don’t mind this small sample, as it will be great for travelling, and at least an attempt in packing a little more lightly!

L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Cream, shade medium – Sachet sample 1ml (RRP: $26.95/30)
I already have a full sized tube of this BB cream, in this exact shade. It provides a light coverage, and although I prefer a slightly better covering cream, I do like using it on casual days.

Bioderma Sebium Foaming Gel – Sample 10ml (RRP: $29.95/500ml)
I think I am about the last person to get onto the Bioderma train having not yet tried any of their products, and as I have heard so many good reviews I am very excited to be trialling this one.

Bioderma Sebium AKN – Sample 5ml (RRP: $24.95/30ml)

This cream claims to help appearance and development of imperfections, and as I do get the odd breakout, especially on the t-zone area, and even more so during the warmer months, I will be looking forward to trying this one out. And again, not having tried any products from Bioderma, I am excited about the inclusion of this one.

BAJI Skincare Super-Nutri Rescue Eye Serum – Full Size (RRP: $39 /15ml)

I have never heard of this brand before, but excited about it after reading that it is an Australian brand that were possible uses certified organic ingredients, and the products are free from parabens, SLS’s and petrochemicals. The pump bottle looks classy and luxurious, so I cant wait to try this anti-ageing eye cream.

Lust Have It Synthetic Precision Pencil Brush – Full Size (RRP: $15)

I have already got a handful of eye shadow brushes, but a girl can never too many, so I am excited about this one too!

TOM Organic Cotton Tampons – Sample x two tampons (RRP: $7.99/16 tampons)

While these are a supposed to be a bonus sample, I am not really that excited about these – yeah, it is one of those necessities that I hate spending money on, and I do like that they are free from chemicals and made from certified organic materials. But currently still breastfeeding my little boy, these will be put away for later use.

Overall, like the previous boxes I have received, I feel that this box contains a nice selection and variety of products – although I have already tried the two L’Oreal samples so they don’t really excite me that much – but if you haven’t tried these products, they are great. The Eyeshadow brush will come in handy, and being new to Bioderma I am excited to finally get to trial some of their products, so I can tick those of my bucket list.

In terms of value, the inclusion of the BAJI eyecream is worth almost twice the box and enough to get me excited, so again, all the smaller samples are again just bonus items in my eyes, although as I have tried the L’Oreal samples and I wont be using the TOM Tampons for a while (but of course LHI couldn’t know that), I would obviously have preferred another selection of samples, which would in turn have made the box feel more valuable.

Lust Have It October Box Teaser…
As something new, Lust Have It has included a card with a teaser for the October box, promising that it will contain a full size INIKA Cosmetics product in every box….That is another brand that I am yet to try, so I do like the sound of that..

And by the way, have you checked out Lust Have It’s new online magazine Lustre….if not, you can see it here.

Product Review: Karpati Natural Hair Care Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Repair

I have very long and thick hair, and when I got pregnant, everyone kept telling me to enjoy that it was so thick, healthy and shiny, as once our baby was born, my hair would take a turn for the worse, and start to fall out… and just the thought of that was pretty dreadful, so I have been pretty conscious in making sure that I’ve been using the best products to care for my tresses. Here are my thoughts on the *Karpati Natural Hair Care Sulphate-Free Shampoo, Silicone-Free Conditioner and Hair Repair;

What They Say:
Sulphate-Free Shampoo: "Effectively cleanses the hair and scalp without the use of sulphates and other harsh chemicals that can strip the hair of its natural oils. Designed to offer nourishment to those prone to dry scalp and any sensitivities including flaking and itching. Suitable for children."
Silicone-Free Daily Conditioner: "Naturally softens and moisturises the hair and scalp without the use of silicones or harsh chemicals. Restores the hair shine and structure without the build up of residue or weighing down the hair."
Hair Repair: "Rich, natural, highly functional leave-in conditioning treatment provides instant repair without the use of silicones or harsh chemicals. With added moisturisers, the hair becomes soft, light and silky. Enhance your hair’s natural ability to prevent split ends and manage brittle or frizzy hair caused by blow drying, chlorine, colouring or sun exposure."
RRP: Shampoo, Conditioner (400ml) $29.95 each, Hair Repair (200ml) $24.95 – Available from Kaparti Online, and selected pharmacies.

What I Say:

A months ago, I trialled the Kaparti Bio-Intelligent Enzymatic Deep Polishing Powder, which is absolutely amazing and so gentle on the skin, that I was so thrilled to also be trialling the Karpati Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Repair as well.

To be honest, it has been quite a while ago I first trialled these products – I had already used them, and then I packed them into my hospital bag when I went to hospital to give birth to my son three months ago….Then I came home with our little miracle, and everything got unpacked days and days later, without further thought, and I forgot all about writing up my review…until now…
And then a few weeks ago we were having a major tidy and clean up when I came across the products, so I thought I’d give them yet another trial…
And my verdict is exactly the same as the first time I used these products. They are fantastic.

All the products from Karpati Natural Hair Care are very natural, in fact the shampoo is made from 98% natural ingredients, while the conditioner uses 97% natural ingredients and the Hair Repair a whopping 99%. And to top it off, the shampoo is also sulphate free, the conditioner and the Hair Repair don’t contain silicone. I love the sound of that, as silicone is what often builds up in the hair, weighing it down.

The shampoo has the most gorgeous fruity scent no doubt coming from the natural grapefruit extract used. As it is sulphate free it doesn’t lather up as much as shampoos containing sulphate, but being aware of this, I resisted temptation and didn’t use more than normal – and after just one wash my hair is feeling nice and soft afterwards.

The conditioner has a medium runny consistency, and quickly absorbs into the hair – actually so quickly that it is tempting to use more, thinking that it is necessary. But it is not. Being silicone free, it rinses out of the hair very quickly, without leaving the hair feeling greasy. And afterwards my hair is quick and easy to comb (even in spite of my hair being desperately due for a haircut). The conditioner has a slight fruity scent, but also a slight hint of coconut.

I follow with the Hair Repair, which is a leave-in treatment that can be used in both wet and dry hair, which I really like, as then I can then also add a moisture boost to my hair on the days I don’t wash it. The treatment helps prevent frizzy hair and split ends while leaving it soft and manageable. It comes in a pump bottle and it is very concentrated – so concentrated that just about a teaspoon full or 4-5 pumps is more than sufficient for my long thick hair, so this one will last forever! And it really does leave the hair feeling soft and rehydrated, without feeling heavy or weighted down. Frizz has been smoothed down, and my hair has a healthy shine.

Unlike the shampoo and conditioner, it has a stronger coconut scent, and if you are a regular reader of my blog, you’d know that is my least favourite scent. However, this scent luckily does fade once absorbed into the hair, and although you can still smell it in the hair during the day, it is so faint that even I can tolerate it.

What I Like:
  • That the products are made using 97-99% natural ingredients
  • The products do not contain silicones, sulphates, parabens or other chemical nasties
  • The products are not tested on animals

What I Don’t Like:
  • A little expensive
  • Only available online and at a few select pharmacies
  • That the Hair Repair has a coconut scent (which is not one of my favourite scent, but of course others may absolutely love it!)

All in all, these are fantastic products, and combined these three products leave my hair feeling so soft and looking so shiny and healthy. And I so love that they are so natural and do not contain any chemical nasties. My only gripe is the coconut scent, but given the effectiveness of the products, I can certainly put up with it – and put it this way, I’d much rather put up with a coconut scent, than other products laden with unnecessary chemicals and additives. I will definitely be keen on checking out the rest of the Karpati product range.  If you’re keen on natural products without chemical nasties, I’m sure you’ll love these products too.

Product Review: Luminesce Advance Night Repair

Once upon a time, using the same moisturiser day and night was sufficient for my skin. But these days, I feel that my skin is needing a little more at night time, and not to mention, day creams these days usually contain SPF, which I don’t find ideal using during the night, as I think it often contributes to my skin breaking out. However, having combination skin, finding the right cream is often a challenge. Here are my thoughts on the *Luminesce Advanced Night Repair;

What They Say:
"The Luminesce Advanced Night Repair works while you sleep. This powerful cosmeceutical is designed to enhance specific metabolic pathways involved in the ageing process. It includes naturally derived ingredients that combat the appearance and signs of premature ageing."

RRP: $79.15 (30ml) – Available from Jeunesse Global

What I Say:
I have recently trilled the Luminesce Essential Body Renewal, and as it is such an amazing body cream, I was excited to be trialling the Luminesce Advanced Night Repair as well.

The Luminesce Advance Night Repair contains among others a blend of vitamins including A, B, C and E to help replenish and rejuvenate the skin with antioxidants. It also contains apple, lentil, watermelon and cucumber extracts to help prevent trans-epidermal water loss by locking in hydration, and Baicalin which promotes new cell growth and allows for easier exfoliation of old cells, creating a younger looking skin surface. Finally it also contains hyaluronic acid, which helps plump and soften the appearance of the skin. And a thing that I love is that it is hypoallergenic and free from parabens.

As mentioned, I have ageing skin with the first signs of ageing starting to show, including fine lines and wrinkles, and what’s bothering me even more, a dull skin tone with increasing pigmentation. And with combination skin prone to breakouts, I am always worried when trialling new cream, especially night creams as they are simply often too rich and heavy for my skin, making it congested and break out in no time.

The Luminesce Advance Night Repair Cream is packaged in a stylish silver jar, - I do normally prefer moisturisers in a pump as it is a little easier to use, and not to mention more hygienic, especially when you as me have combination skin and need to use so little cream that a jar will last you forever. But what I love about the Luminesce Night Cream is that it actually comes with a spatula, such a small thing, yet something you sadly rarely get with moisturisers in jars! Big bonus points.

The cream is concentrated and it spreads so easily that about a pea size of cream is more than enough for my face – so after about a month of use I have only used about a third of the jar, so I expect it to last a good three months.

Unlike other night creams which are often extremely thick and heavy, the Luminesce Night Cream is very light, almost a gel. And it absorbs instantly into my skin leaving it so extremely soft and without that greasy feeling that I often get from night creams.

And with most night creams, often I wake the next morning to a face that is shiny and so greasy, but that is not the case with Luminesce Night Cream – my skin is soft and clearly thoroughly moisturised, yet there is no grease in sight. More bonus points!

The cream has a subtle fruity fragrance, no doubt coming from the cucumber, apple and watermelon extracts – and this scent is so lovely that I’d love it to linger for a bit, but unfortunately , but it quickly fades after the cream has absorbed into the skin.

So how has this cream performed after using it for about a month – well I’m happy to say that it has not caused any breakouts, on the contrary I actually think it has helped minimise them! My skin is so thoroughly moisturised, and fine lines and those annoying frown lines seem to have softened in appearance, and my skin just looks healthier. I am impressed!

At $79.15 for 30ml this is a little expensive, but then again it is in line with similar quality high end branded night creams sold in the department stores.

What I Like:
  • That is such a light gel that absorbs quickly into my skin, and doesn’t leave any greasiness
  • It is hypoallergenic and free from parabens
  • That it doesn’t make my skin breakout
  • That my skin looks healthier and fine lines and frown lines seem softened
  • The stylish packaging and that it comes with a spatula
  • The beautiful fruity fragrance

What I Don’t Like:
  • The price
  • That it is only available for purchase online

Overall, I am really impressed with this night cream from Luminesce as it has really delivered on its promises as I can really see and feel a difference in my skin after just a month of use, - with a baby I am rarely (read no longer!) getting my required beauty sleep at night, but I am convinced that this cream helps make it look like I’ve had more Zzzzzz than I really have -  so I can only imagine the difference and improvement the cream would make with long-term use, and in connection with the other products from the Luminesce Advance line.
As it is so perfect for my combination skin, I can imagine that it would also be suitable for those with more oily skin types, while I am not sure that it would provide sufficient moisture for those with dry skin. My skin is absolutely loving this cream, and if you can afford the expensive price tag, I am sure you will love it too!

Product Review: Violet Box – September Review

Monthly beauty box subscriptions are very popular at the moment, and new ones seem to be popping up frequently. When Violet Box launched a few months ago and asked me if I wanted to trial one, I naturally happily accepted, and so far I have been more than impressed with the contents of the boxes, and have been so tempted to subscribe, but pushed doing so as I had a few samples I really wanted and needed to use up first – when to my surprise, out of the blue, I have just received the September box for review as well – thanks so much Violet Box for your generosity! If you missed my reviews of the previous months’ boxes, you can see them here (June, July, August).

So as you can see, the contents of the boxes has so far been so impressive, so if you are not yet a subscriber, read on as Violet Box currently has a great offer on your  first box.
Anyway, here are thoughts on the September edition of the *The Violet Box;

What They Say:
"Violet Box brands promises to every month include 4-6 premium beauty and lifestyle samples from well-known and trusted Australian beauty brands as well as exciting new International brands, one in particular is a revolutionary product currently trending in New York and has been featured in Vogue and on the Today Show!"

RRP: You can subscribe to Violet Box for:
1 month – $22.95
3 months - $66.00
6 months - $130
12 months - $250

But right now you can get $10 off your first box, simply go Violet Box and enter VIOLETBOX10 at the checkout, and you will get your first box for just $12.95 - BARGAIN!!

What I Say:
As previous months, the September Violet Box comes in a stylish matte black box, which is closed with a magnetised flip lid and a purple ribbon, and it has the purple Violet Box logo in the corner of the box. And inside, the samples were wrapped in violet tissue paper. The actual box is of a sturdy design, and the fact that it closes completely with the magnet, as well as it has a violet ribbon to tie it with, and as it is black and stylish looking, I love reuse these to store small things such as jewellery and other little knickknacks!

So what was in the September Violet Box…

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Floral Slanted Tweezers - Full-size (RRP $14.95)

I have never heard of the Vintage Cosmetic Company before, but these slanted tweezers look so cute. They have a cute floral pattern on one side, and a cream colour on the other side. I always misplace my tweezers, and I recently dropped my favourite ones on the bathroom floor, so they are now the tiniest bit bent, and no longer very good, so these new ones come at just the perfect time for me.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Emery Board – Full Size (RRP $4.95)

Another full-sized product from the Vintage Cosmetic Company, this emery board is so cute too, with the signature cute floral design on one side of the board and a dotted design on the other. In my opinion, a girl can never have to many emery boards, and I keep them everywhere, from my handbags, the study drawer and in the car, so a new one will come in very handy.

NS-5 Cuticle & Nail Complex – Full-Size (RRP: $9.95/15g)

I have previously tried the foot balm from the Nutri Synergy, and it is so amazing at fixing cracked heels, that I am quite excited to be trying this cuticle and nail complex treatment too. It promises to help restore dry, ragged cuticles, hangnails and split fingers, as well as strengthen nails, and restore elasticity, to prevent nails from flaking and breaking. And while my nails are in a pretty good condition at the moment, growing like crazy (I have to cut them at least twice a week to keep them at a reasonable length!), my cuticles and definitely dry and ragged, no doubt no liking that I constantly wash my hands, so I look forward to trying this out.

Sinful Nail Polish - Full Size (RRP: $4.95/15ml)

I have heard a lot of the Sinful nail polishes but in spite of the bargain price, never gotten around to trying them, so I am very excited to see the inclusion of one in this months’ box. I got the colour Timbleberry, which is a gorgeous pinky-red colour, perfect for spring and summer. I cant wait to try it out – and in fact, seeing it will be a nice sunny 27 degrees in Melbourne today, it is time to put away the winter boots, and bring out the sandals, so time to add some colour to the toes!!

Eleven Australia Miracle Hair Treatment – 6ml sample (RRP: $24.95/125ml)

I have already tried this hair treatment (you can see my full review here), and as I really like this product, I am excited to see it included in the box – Eleven Australia is a new brand, and everyone should now experience how great their products are – and besides, this cute little tube will be perfect for travelling or weekends away!

Timeless Truth Stem Cell Extract Mask – Full Size ($5.00/30ml)

This is another brand that is new to me, and as I love cloth masks I am excited to be trialling this out. It promises to help reduce fine lines, skin tightening and help with pigmentation – exactly what my skin needs.

Finally, the box also contains a offer of purchasing a 100ml Swissdent Whitening Toothpaste, and you will receive a bonus Swissdent Pure Toothpaste 50ml, worth $15. Go to Violet Box Online to claim this offer.

All in all, another impressive box from Violet Box with the inclusion of 5 full sized products, which have a combined value of almost $40, almost twice the value of the box! And there there’s a bit for the feet, nails, face and also hair too, so there is a nice variety of product, and something to please everyone.

Again I think its an amazing box and definitely worth its value, and while I was not in desperate need of the tweezers and the emery board, they are both ‘stable’ items that are so handy to have. And as for the rest of the products, they are all products that I will look forward to trying and know I will enjoy, so yet again – well done Violet Box.
*Product was kindly provided for consideration, and has reviewed in accordance with my Disclosure Policy.

What do you think of the contents of the September Violet Box? Did you get this months’ box too? What did you think? And if not, would you consider subscribing?
And have you heard of the Vintage Cosmetic Company or Timeless Truth? Or any of the other brand that are new to you too?
