FATHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS - FAST-PACED ENTERTAINMENT

In the next instalment of father's day gift ideas, today it is all about entertainment, as which daddy doesn't like a fast paced action movie, so here's a couple of my best suggestions...

McLaren - Pioneer. Leader. Father. Champion

Bruce McLaren was the man from New Zealand with a big ambition, going to England and taking o the giants of F1. This documentary covers the life and times of a man with a dream and one that succeeded and his name still lives on in today's Grand Prix championship.

My hubby is a Motorsport tragic and thoroughly enjoyed the film, especially with so much footage from the period of the races but also the behind the scenes footage. This documentary is a must see for the avid Motorsport fan as it highlights the early days of this great sport.

John Wick Chapter 2, featuring Keanu Reeves
My husband enjoyed the first of this series and he has desperately been waiting for the sequel to come out. The movie picks up from the end of the original and John Wick just wants to get back to his life, except one thing he wants his Mustang back and the Russians still have it. The movie has what most men want, action a plenty, car chases and the good guy getting what he wants.....sort of. A violent movie with plenty of blood spilled, and not to disappoint those who has watched the first movie, the 'pencil action' returns - this violence may not be for all, but hubby loved it, and already hoping third instalment will follow soon.

Once upon a time in Venice, featuring Bruce Willis, John Goodman

Bruce Willis plays a role similar to a few of his past ones with this time he is a down and out private investigator who is having big issues with all his worlds colliding at once. The hubby enjoyed this action comedy and the tag lines that Willis always seems to deliver with his funny wit.

McLaren - RRP: $29.98 / Blu-Ray, $24.98 /DVD
John Wick Chapter 2 - $29.98 / Blu-Ray, $19.98 / DVD
Once upon a time in Venice - $24.98 / Blu-Ray, $19.98 / DVD

FATHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS - FOR THE DADDY WHO HAS EVERYTHING

In the next installment of Father's Day gift ideas, I'm looking at different options for the daddy who simply has everything... And forget about the boring socks and jocks, these options will totally make his day...

Lets start by one of the obvious choices, a good bottle of whiskey such as this Glenfiddich Project XX (pronounced Project Twenty). This is seriously for the whiskey lover and collector, and is an experimental whisky from Malt Master Brian Kinsman. It is made by 20 of the world’s greatest whisky experts, and blended in a variety of different casks, as selected from the thousands of casks maturing the warehouse, by the 20 specialists. And then the 20 chosen whiskies were then married together by Brian Kinsman to create this single malt with a unique warm and fruity character of a classic Glenfiddich whisky with hints of apple blossom, summer fruits, ripe pear and hints of sweet candy floss. Box,

It comes in a sleek black bottle inside a matte black box both with rose gold features and it simply looks amazing, no need to wrap. He'll love it, and will be sure to treasure if for special occasions and keep it out on display!

For the daddy who spends a long time on the computer, and I guess, who doesn't these days, the Logitech MX Master 2S Wireless Mouse a great option and the ultimate computer accessory. This advanced computer mouse is a multi-device which allows you to seamlessly control up to 3 computers and even copy and paste text, images and files between them. It also has a speed-adaptive scroll wheel that auto-shifts from click-to-click to hyper-fast scroll, and with a simple stroke of the thumb wheel, and you're scrolling side-to-side.

It has also been designed with a new 4000-DPi precision sensor that allows the mouse to track on virtually any surface, even glass. It charges via your computer and a micro-USB charging cable and in just 3 minutes, and a full charge lasts over 70 days. The mouse is not only super light, it also looks so cool and a bit space-agey, but it has been hand sculpted for a better comfort, and it supports your hand and wrist perfectly.

And then there's the classic option of a Victorinox Classic... Each year for the past six years, Victorinox has held a Classic Limited Edition Design Contest, and in 2017, the theme was ‘Animals of the world’, and over 1200 design submissions were made of which 10 different ones were and put into production as limited edition. I personally have a red classic one of these, which I've been using as my key ring for as long as I can remember. And I can't recall the number of times my hubby has asked to borrow one of 'my tools" - yup, this little classic knife, has the best tools, and those you'll often need, including a small blade, scissors, nail file, screwdriver, key ring, toothpick, tweezers and key ring. This version looks so gorgeous with its blue and red Aboriginal turtle design, and it weights just 21g, so it really is the perfect key ring, that makes a unique statement at the same time.

And make sure to accompany the present to daddy with a humorous card from the Hallmark Shoebox collection. There are heaps of different cards to chose from, from naughty, witty, crude to pure daggy daddy cards, so there 's something for everyone and for every sense of humour too. And I think everyone can agree that a personalised handwritten message does make it feel so much more personal.

FATHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS - FRAGRANCE EDITION

Father's Day in Australia is coming up this Sunday, so if you have not yet sorted all your pressies for your dad, granddads, hubby... You best get to it immediately. Today and the next few day I'll be sharing with you some of my last minute father's day gift ideas, today starting with fragrances..

First up is the newly launched David Beckham Respect Eau de Toilette. This fragrance comes in the most stunning silver bottle which has a ripple effect, and screams luxury. It'll look amazing on display in any bathroom.

It contains the following notes:

  • Top Notes: Grapefruit, Watermelon and Pink Pepper
  • Middle Notes: Lavender, Basil, Cardamom
  • Base Notes: Vetiver, Patchouli, Oakmoss

It is described as a woody scent, but personally I find it more warm spicy but with a refreshing citrus undertone which I quite like, as it makes it lighter and not so overpowering. It has a good staying power, and lasts all day on my hubby.

Then there's the Sean Paul by Sean John Eau de Toilette Spray. This fragrance was launched back in 2016 and has been described my Sean "Diddy" Combs himself as sophisticated scent that is not too strong, but memorable for when you are around a young lady or just trying to smell good'. It contains the following notes;

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Mandarin, Black Pepper, Water Mint
  • Middle Notes: Nutmeg, Angelica, Violet leaf, Cardamom
  • Base Notes: Amber, Musk, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Amber Wood and Coumarin

Personally, I am not fond of too musky scent, but thankfully this scent is more of a fresh powdery scent with a touch of vanilla and citrus, and only the woody notes lingering in the background. The fact that it is not too heavy, also makes this a great scent for everyday use. It comes in a stylish all black round bottle, that really is sleek and sophisticated.
Then there's the Diesel Bad Eau de Toilette. This fragrance was also launched in 2016 and described as a daring and sophisticated fresh wood fragrance, which is to be a 'game of seduction'. It contains the following notes:

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Cardamom, Lavender, Violet Leaf
  • Middle Notes: Caviar, Orris Root, Sage
  • Base Notes: Tobacco, Woody Notes, Tonka Bean, Ambroxan, Patchouli

Personally, I've never before seen the ingredients of caviar and ambroxan in a fragrance, so not really sure how to detect those particular notes. But this fragrance does has a initial fresh citrusy with touch of floral spice and again, it is thankfully not too dominant on the woody or tobacco notes (though a touch stronger than in Sean John). Again, another fragrance that lasts nicely throughout the day. The bottle is another stunning one, and also very masculine with its black leather look, which has a clear 'window' through the word "BAD" which allows you to see the perfume inside along with the golden lining of the bottle, which gives it extra cool dimension.

And why not give accompany the present with a humorous card from the Hallmark Shoebox collection. There are heaps of different cards to chose from, from naughty, witty, crude to pure daggy daddy cards, so there 's something for everyone and for every sense of humour too. And I think everyone can agree that a personalised handwritten message does make it feel so much more personal.

David Beckham Respect Eau de Toilette - RRP: $49.00 / 90ml
Sean John by Sean John Eau de Toilette - RRP: $49.00 / 100ml
Diesel Bad Eau de Toilette - RRP: $119.99 / 125ml, $99.99 / 75ml, $85 / 50ml

PRODUCT REVIEW: DR. BRONNERS ORGANIC PUMP SOAP AND 18-IN-1 PURE CASTILE SOAP

One o those brands I only came across lately is Dr. Bronner's, and honestly, I cannot believe that I hadn't heard of them before - I mean, they've been around for over 150 years, when the company was founded in 1858 in Germany, although it didn't take it's current form and name, Dr. Bronner's, until 1948 in America.

Dr. Bronner's to this day is still family owned and run, by the old-world time-honored simplicity tradition dating back to the family’s soap-making tradition. The products are USDA certified organic, with the brand creating Fair Trade projects across the world that ensure fair and just treatment of farmers and workers, and devoting profits to worthwhile causes and charities worldwide.

I've tried a few of their products including the Dr. Bronner's 4-in-1 Sugar Lemongrass Lime Organic Pump Soap, which is suitable for anything from washing hands, face, body & hair. The soap is contains no synthetic detergents or preservatives, but is made with organic shikakai, which comes from the seed pods of the small South Asian tree Acadia Concinna, which is then extracted in organic sugar and organic grape juice and combined with pure-castile liquid soap base. The soap also contains lover oil, help oil jojoba oil along with lemon grass oil, lemon oil and lime oil, and it is smooth and soft, and while I've not tried it as a shampoo, I have used it as both hand wash and body lotion, and I love how gently it cleans my skin. I also love the scent from the lemon grass and lime, which is so refreshing and uplifting, as well as the gorgeous bright lime green pump bottle looks great by the sink or in the shower.

Then there's the Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Pure-Castile Soaps, which is nothing short of the ultimate multi-tasking product. These Pure-Castile Soap can be used for just about any cleaning task from face, body, hair, to dishes, laundry, mopping your floor, even washing your pet!! Yup, how incredible is that. You could literally just have this in the house, and it would do everything for you, well perhaps except for the actual mopping of the floors or doing the dishes. The soap doesn't contain a single drop of synthetic preservatives, detergents or foaming agents, and as it is extremely concentrated and in fact claims to be 2-3x more concentrated than other soaps, you simply have to dilute, with anything from a few drops, a teaspoon-full, half a cupful, all depending on what you use it for. All the details and suggestions or use, clearly on the bottle. Personally love using this to clean my house, my sinks, my floors, and the Citrus makes my house smell so clean and fresh, especially in the bathrooms and floors, but the Peppermint bathrooms. However, there are a massive 11 different varieties, so there is something for every occasion and regardless of the scent you prefer.

I tried the Hemp Cherry Blossom, which comes with a pretty pink label and has a beautiful floral scent, along with the Hemp Citrus, which comes with a bright orange label, and smells so gorgeous and fresh.

I love that the products come in a large variety of different scents, the product come in gorgeous brightly coloured bottles, which look beautiful out on display. The pump Soap is such a great hand soap for the whole family, but also loving the Pure-Castile soap for cleaning my house, without all the chemicals.

Dr. Bronner's 4-in-1 Organic Pump Soaps - RRP: $17.95 / 355ml

Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Pure-Castile Soaps - RRP: $5.95 / 59ml, $12.95 / 237ml

Available from Dr. Bronner's online, David Jones, select pharmacies and health food stores, as well as select online stores

PRODUCT REVIEW: BRIO CLASSIC DELUXE TRAIN SET 33424 FROM CHILDSMART

Today it's yet again time to get our two little boys to test out some toys, and today its the Brio Classic Deluxe Train Set from Childsmart...

Brio Classic Deluxe Train Set 33424

If you've been tuning into BLH regularly, you'll probably remember that our boys absolutely love their Brio toys, and hence we've featured quite a few previously - if you missed them, you can check them out via the labels tab on the right-hands side of the blog, for easy access all the previous reviews.

Anyway, back to the Brio Classic Deluxe Set, which a classic wooden railway train set, and the perfect starter set if your kids are new to Brio, or as in our case, the perfect addition to their existing play sets.

The Brio Classic Deluxe Set contains 25 pieces including;

  • 1 x Train Engine
  • 2 x Train Wagons
  • 1 x Train Station
  • 2 Trees
  • 12 x Pieces of Track
  • 5 x pillar supports

And with the pieces, you can build a track in the shape on an 'eight', complete with hills and trees surrounding the descending tracks where the train can go on a never ending adventure, and stopping at the train station to pick up and drop off new passengers.

As with all other Brio toys, this is made of high quality materials, including FSC Certified wood, so you're certain that it will last a lifetime, and not like one of those toys that break if its dropped on the floor. We love how the tracks are open-ended so your child's imagination decide how it should look today, and of course, if you have other play sets, the options are endless.

Combining several Brio play sets..

Our only negative about this set is that the tracks easily fall down from the pillar supports, especially with little kids playing with it, as it only takes the tiniest push and it falls down and the track comes apart. We solved the issue by putting a tiny bit of sticky velcro on both the pillars and the sloping tracks, which solved the issue, and very quickly too.

Brio Classic Deluxe Train Set 33424

The Brio Classic Deluxe Set is intended for kids aged 2+, and our two boys aged 2 and 4 are both the perfect aces for it, both having so much fun role-playing with it. And they've loved adding it to their existing Brio play sets, which added even more fun, and keeps them entertained time and time again for hours and hours. Another winner from Brio that we highly recommended.

PRODUCT REVIEW: SALVATOS FOLDABLE THONGS

I think we've all tried it... Been out wearing our tallest heels, and by the end of the night, the feet are so sore, that you end up walking barefoot with the heels in hand through the city home. Or perhaps gone out for a pedicure, but wearing closed shoes, and immediately stuffing up the freshly painted toes as soon as you put on those shoes. Or, I also personally am not fond of driving in my high heels, not that I cannot do it, but I hate how doing so marks up the back of the heel and shoe, and not looking very nice. Regardless of the situation, the Salvatos Foldable Thongs are your ultimate saviour...

You see, the Salvatos are a range of very unique patented, foldable and portable thongs that comes in a little nifty silicon pouch for easy storage, and the thongs simply fold in half, the only take up half the room in your handbag - plus, as you fold them, thus covering up the sole, it also means that it is more hygienic and cleaner popping them into the handbag.

The Salvatos thongs have a rubber strap but the soles are made from EVA, which is a man-made, eco-friendly, light weight and flexible material, that is also non-toxic, shock absorbing and very durable - so durable that it has proven to stay in tact fold after fold, so no need to worry that your thongs will break in half!

I have put the Melbourne Black pair to the test, which is an all black pair, apart from the white Salvatos logos on the straps - simple and elegant, and goes with everything, even that LBD!! And I have to say that they are comfortable even at this time of the year... And when I say that, I am surely also not the only one who's feet struggle the first few times in the start of the new spring and summer season that you pop your feet into thongs... Mine are so sore each time, until my feet yet again get used to that starp between the toes. But not with the Salvatos, as the rubber strap is soft and comfortable, so I've managed to wear them for longer periods of time, without any irritation at all.

At the moment mine are 'living' in my car, so they are always there when I need them, but I know that once we move to warmer (read sandal weather), they ill increasingly find a place in my handbag when I go out.

There are heaps of cool colours available, so make sure to go check them out, I know you'll love them too.

PRODUCT REVIEW: BHAVE RESCUE INTENSE REPAIR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER

I have very long and thick hair, and that over the years has been through its share of chemical treatments, so needless to say that it due to its length, does have some dry and split ends. I am therefore always looking for new products to help maintain my hair, so when I was offered to trial the *bhave Rescue Intense Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, I happily accepted. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
"The bhave™ Rescue Intense Repair Shampoo and Conditioner are luxurious/premium shampoo and conditioner formulated to nourish, strenghten and repair. Infused with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® to reduce breakage, restore hair structure and improve shine and condition".

"Both the shampoo and the conditioner contain Replicine™ Functional Keratin® - a protein blend that penetrates the hair shaft restoring strength. Protects and nourishes by replacing key proteins found naturally in the hair. Provides a 'protein shield' to protect hair from environmental damage. Suitable for all hair types."

What I Say:
I have previously tried a few different products from bhave, and I have to say that I am so in love with those products, including the Hydrator Shampoo and Conditioner, the Leave-in Crème, the Deep Intense Conditioning Masque, The Fresh Ends and not forgetting the amazing Riot Control Oil – all these products are simply so amazing, and without a doubt some of the best hair products that I’ve ever tried, as they really do make such a difference to the health of your hair. So if you’ve missed my previous reviews, do check them out via the links above, or through my easy to use Product Reviews tab on the top of this page, which lists all the products I have reviewed!

In case you’ve never heard of the bhave brand before, I can tell you that all their products are free from parabens, sulphates and sodium chloride. It is an Australian owned, and all products are made in Australia, as well bhave is also the first Australian hair care brand to offer the keratin based hair restoration technology and include it in the hair care collection. Impressive stuff, isn’t it!!

If your hair is so damaged that you thought the only option was to cut it off, bhave claims to be able nurse traumatised hair back to good health with regular use of the Rescue Intense Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, due to the products containing a new functional keratin technology that has the unique ability to penetrate the hair shaft and repair damage, rebuilding each hair strand from the inside out. And as well as repairing and restoring existing damage, bhave also claims that regular use will form a protective shield around the hair strands providing it with around the clock defence against damage.

As mentioned, my long hair is generally it is quite healthy, but due to its length, needless to say that it has been through countless summers, hair colourings and heat sessions, so it is a little dry at the ends with some split ends.

I usually wash my hair every second day, and rarely do I feel that I need to wash it more than once, however on the back of the bhave Rescue Shampoo it is recommended to wash the hair twice, and the second time leaving the shampoo in the hair for a 1-2 minutes for maximum benefit and repair before rinsing – so naturally I have been following these instructions, even though I really haven’t felt that my hair needed the second wash.

Sulphates free shampoos can often be difficult to get to lather properly, (and consequently I often feel that I use more shampoo than necessary in an attempt to compensate and get it to lather) but that is not the case with the Rescue shampoo. It easily lathered up into soft foam, - and with the second wash, even more so!! And after rinsing my hair feels so clean and soft, and without feeling squeaky or stripped for moisture.

Afterwards I have been using the bhave Rescue Conditioner, which in addition to the Replicine™ Functional Keratin also contains argan oil which is high in vitamin E to strengthen and nourish the hair. And my hair instantly drinks up the conditioner. After the 2-3 minutes it is recommended to leave it in, it is so easy to rinse out – in fact it actually doesn’t feel like there is a lot of conditioner to rinse out (my hair has clearly absorbed the majority of the conditioner!), and without leaving behind a greasy residue which many intensive conditioners often do.

Combing my hair afterwards has never been easier, my comb simply glides through my hair, almost as if I had already combed it in the shower. And once dry, it is so incredibly soft and smooth that I just can’t stop touching it and running my hands through it.

After having used the rescue shampoo and conditioner for few weeks, I can both see and feel an amazing difference in the condition of my hair. Moisture levels really seem to have been restored, even in my otherwise dry ends, which now feel like they’ve recently had a trim. Flyaways seems to have been reduced dramatically too, and it is so healthy looking and shiny that I no longer feel the need to use any shine serums to tame the flyaways or add shine. It is as if I’ve just had a series of professional treatments done at the salon!

Like the other shampoos and conditioners from bhave, the Rescue products come in simple and sleek white round cylinder bottles with a flip lid at the top. They are easy to use in the shower with wet hands, and as the lid is flat, when you near the end of the product, you can also stand the bottle upside down without the bottles tipping over on the shower shelf, to make sure you use up every last bit of product. And I like that they are ‘colour coded’ so that the shampoo has a red label at the top of the bottle, while the conditioner has a grey label. That makes it so much easier to distinguish between the two in the shower for someone like me who is half-blind when not wearing glasses!

Both the shampoo and the conditioner have a lovely floral scent, which is very pleasant and far from artificial or overpowering. And once my hair is washed and dry, this lovely floral scent still lingers in my hair, which I really love.

At $44.95 each for a 300ml bottle, the shampoo and conditioner are the most expensive shampoos and conditioners that I have ever used. But in saying that, the results really are amazing. Not only has it really restored my dry hair back to good health, I also believe that because of these products, I will be able to stretch my visits to the hairdresser, and consequently saving both time and money. If you have dry and damaged hair, or you are maybe trying to grow your hair a little longer, then I highly recommend that you try the Rescue products, you won’t be disappointed.

PRODUCT REVIEW: RIMMEL LONDON # INSTA SELFIE COLLECTION

A drugstore makeup brand that has really hit the mark lately is Rimmel London, with products that are always very budget friendly, but also high quality and right on trend, and the newest releases to hit the Australian shelves are no exception, a collection designed to get you selfie-ready in an instant..

Let's start with the Rimmel London #Insta Conceal & Correct Palette, which is a nifty little palette that contains three creamy shades that addresses the different skin tones and imperfections you want to conceal for a more flawless complexion. The kit includes these shades;

  • Peach - that helps neutralizes dark circles and illuminates face features
  • Green - that covers redness and blemishes on the skin
  • Lilac - that evens out yellowish undertones and corrects dull and sallow skin

The shades are to be applied to the skin prior to foundation where needed, or as shown on the image on the back of the compact. It can be applied with a concealing brush, though personally I prefer to use my fingers!! All shades are quite creamy, and have added Vitamin E, Aloe and Chamomile, and I have to say that I am quite impressed, and use particularly the green for blemishes and the peach shade for my under eye circles, and do like the result. It can be a little tricky to blend evenly, but again, I find that it is easiest with my fingers perhaps as the warmth from my fingers makes it easier to blend and perhaps that way more natural looking being.

Then there's the Rimmel London #Insta Conceal & Contour Palette, which is a similar looking palette to the above, also containing three creamy shades, only these are designed to help cover up and conceal imperfections and accentuating features by sculpting some angles and camouflaging different on your face. The kit contains;

  • Highligher
  • Concealer
  • Countour

It is best used on top of your foundation where needed, or as on the graphic shown on the back of the palette.

Its available in three shades, light, medium and dark so there should be a match for most skin tones. I have a medium beige skin tone, and I tried the medium shade, which will be ok come summer and I have a little more colour in my face, but at the moment it is a tad dark for my winter pale skin.

The first shade is the highlighter which is a champagne shade that helps illuminate and brighten the face for a subtle dewy glow on your cheeks, brow bone, cupids bow etc. It is quite subtle, but can be built up slightly, and I find it easiest to apply using my fingers.

The concealer is great for covering small blemishes, and other areas of concern such as redness and pigmentation, and here I actually find that using a small concealer brush gives the best result, as you can dab it on lightly until you've got the coverage you want. It lasts well on the skin throughout the day.

Finally, there's the contouring shade which helps define and sculpt your face for either a naturel definition of a more chiselled look if you build up the product slowly. It is easy to apply, but I do find the chocolate shade a tad too dark for my skin at the moment, so haven't been experimenting with it enough to cast a final verdict.

Then there's the #InstaFlawless Perfecting, Radiant Skin Tint, which is actually a product that was launched last year. But this is a multi-functional product that has several functions including primer, tinted moisturiser while offering SPF protection.

It helps prime and perfect the skin, erases signs of fatigue, making the skin tone look more even and brighter while giving it a natural-looking radiant glow, and moisturises the skin for 24 hour

It has a very light and thin formula and it absorbs quickly and easily into the skin, with a nice dewy finish, and a light coverage, yet surprisingly it does manage to minimise the look of my pigmentation and even out my skin tone and give my skin a nice healthy glow, but I still need a concealer to cover and hide more prominent marks (but I usually always do with tinted moisturisers). It can be used both on its own, or it can also be used underneath your usual foundation, but I must admit to only having used it on its own.

The tint claims to after just seven day's wear, leave the skin more even and with a radiant glow, but I have to say that I have not noticed any permanent change to the look of my skin, apart from when I'm actually wearing the tint.

The tint works well on my combination skin, but the usual shiny t-zone does appear by the afternoon, so a touch up is required. Regardless, I do enjoy using this #InstaFlawless Perfecting, Radiant Skin Tint, as a tinted moisturiser on those days I am just after a quick and simple casual look.

Next up is the Rimmel London #Insta Fix & Matte Powder, which is a superfine white translucent powder that helps set and fix the foundation to make it more even, while also controlling shine and diminishing oil product - and having combination skin always prone to shine especially on my nose and rest of the t-zone by mid-day, I really like this powder. It is so lightweight and literally invisible, and makes my skin look lovely and matte, while not making my makeup look dry or cakey. Even after touch ups during the day. It comes in a round clear compact, and has embossed hashag symbols in perfect keeping with the insta theme for a perfect selfie, and it really is the most stunning design.

Finally, there's the Rimmel #Insta Fix & Go 2 in 1 Primer & Setting Spray, which is a great multi-tasking products, that doubles as both a primer and a setting spray, plus you can use it to refresh the skin throughout the day too. The primer is oil-free, which is great when you've got combination skin like me, so no need to worry that it will make your skin look greasy throughout the day.

It is so easy to apply, you simply spritz over the face and wait a few moments before applying your makeup, and then once done, spray again to set it. So much quicker than a cream or gel based primer. The Insta Fix & Go promises to help prolong the wear of makeup making it look nicer for longer, and it really does stop that dreaded afternoon shine. And at the same time, it feels lovely and revitalising on the skin thanks to the added cucumber extract, which also makes it smell so fresh and summery and absolutely divine. As I am always struggling with makeup going shiny halfway through the day, I am really enjoying this spray, so I can easily see this one becoming a stable in my makeup cabinet.

Rimmel London #Insta Conceal & Correct Palette - RRP: $18.95 / 8.4g
Rimmel London #Insta Conceal & Contour Palette - RRP: $18.95 / 8.4g

PRODUCT REVIEW: DREAMBABY ON-THE-GO STROLLERBUDDY

With two little kids, whenever we go out, I feel we always need to pack up the whole house as there are simply so many things that we need to bring, from nappies, spare clothes, toys, and not to mention snacks and bottles – and fitting it into my already overloaded and heavy nappy bag, is not only near impossible - but also makes it difficult to find some of the essentials you need all the time - and that's why we've been loving the new Dreambaby® On-the-Go Strollerbuddy® Bag.

This new Dreambaby Strollerbuddy bag comes in two different colours, blue or grey (we're using the blue), and it simply fits onto the pram or stroller handle with velcro straps, that makes it easy to attach when needed and remove again.

The Blue bag has a very cool denim look, which I really like, and it made of such high quality fabrics, including mesh, that you can easily wipe down if it gets dirty. It has room for two drink bottles, one in either side, and it also has a larger storage compartment in the centre where you can put larger items, such as change of clothes, toys or snacks, and I like that it has a 'flap' that you can close to 'hide' things as well as protect a little. It also has a large mesh pocket at the back, as well as two pockets in the front, a smaller one and a larger one, and personally I like to use these for things like my phone, keys and a pack of tissues.

This Dreambaby® On-the-Go Strollerbuddy bag does not offer sufficient storage for us when we are going on longer trips, as I find it is too little to hold several nappies and wipes too, but even so, I like having it attached it to the handle of the pram so that the necessary items are within easy reach and I can then store my large and bulky nappy bag underneath the pram. And used on its own, it is perfect for when you’re going for walks or for when going to the playground, as again, it easily stores the necessities such as drinks, snacks, hats and sunnies and other smaller essentials.

Dreambaby® On-the-Go Strollerbuddy - RRP: $29.95

Available from all Baby Goods Retailers.

PRODUCT REVIEW: HOW TO TRANSFORM BLEMISH PRONE SKIN WITH ASPECT SKINCARE

Unfortunately I have always struggled with temperamental skin, ever since I was a teenager, I have suffered with bad breakouts, and while, as I've gotten older, I have learnt how to deal with it better, mainly through better more targeted skincare, ever so often it still has a bit of a 'hissy fit'. Lately I have had great success getting some bad breakouts under control again, thanks to Aspect Skincare, where I've put a whole skincare regimen to the test..

In case you are not familiar with Aspect, let me quickly tell you that it is an Australian brand that makes high-powered skincare products using pure and active ingredients based on medical science. The products are also free from pesticides, parabens and dyes, which is fantastic too!

Here's the products that I've been testing;

Aspect Purastat 5 Cleanser - used AM and PM
Aspect Exfol L 15 Exfoliating Night Serum - used PM
Aspect Extreme C 20 - used AM
Aspect Jungle Brew - used AM and PM
Aspect Stop Spot - used as required
Aspect Sheer Hydration - used AM and PM

Let's start with the cleanser, the Aspect Purastat 5 Cleanser. This is a very gentle foaming cleanser, that also has a slightly exfoliating effect on the skin due to the naturally occurring AHA's including L-lactic acid, bilberry, sugar cane, citric acid, wasabi root, olive leaf extract and white and green tea, all of which helps remove makeup and excess oil and impurities along with dead skin cells to keep the pores clean to prevent breakouts. It also contains 7 botanicals to and antioxidants to help add moisture to the skin, protect and strengthen the skin's natural defences while soothing and calming the skin.

The cleanser comes in a funky pump bottle and it is very concentrated so the tiniest amount is sufficient. It does a great job at removing my makeup (note it is not recommended for use eye makeup remover) - but that said, I do actually prefer to remove my makeup first with a basic makeup remover, and use this one as the second and more intense and in-depth cleanser to really get my skin and pores clean. And I love how it has quickly managed to balance my combination skin, clearly gently buffing away dead skin cells, yet without drying it out, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.

Then there's the Aspect Exfol L15, which is an skin resurfacing and exfoliating night serum that contains AHA's from L-Lactic Acid, Multifruit BSC, and Canadian Willowherb, to gently exfoliate and lift away any accumulation of dead and dull skin cells for a smoother, clearer, brighter and more healthy looking complexion.

This night serum is intended for especially those with impure, congested, dull and thickened skin, and thus perfect for my combination skin prone to breakouts. It is very gentle, and just a few drops before your usual night cream is all it takes for this serum to do its magic, as each morning I not only feel that my skin is a little softer and smoother, I've also found that it has also helped balance my skin out, reducing the oiliness in my skin, as well as my skin seems brighter and more even in its tone too.

The Aspect Extreme C 20 is an oil-soluble vitamin C serum that helps fight the many signs of ageing including texture, wrinkles, slackened skin and uneven skin tone, including redness and pigmentation. The serum contains a mix of vitamin C, corrective botanical extracts, and collagen amino peptides, along with energising extracts such as Canadian willowherb extract and wasabi extract

The actual serum is very light and is best applied in the morning after cleansing and before applying moisturiser, and after just a few uses I could start to se that my skin was starting to look more refined, softer and plumper, clearer and more refreshed and more brighter and glowing too - and even when I apply my makeup on top, my skin looks more dewy and radiant.

Then there's the Aspect Jungle Brew, and I must admit that when I first saw the name of the product, I did smile a little, and making me think of something like a beer brew or something. However instead this oil-free moisturisng serum designed for combination, oily or problematic skin has got its name from the trio of Amazonian extracts, which includes Acai, Andiroba and Copaiba Balsam, that help clarify the skin and regulate oil production, reduce the appearance of visible imperfections leaving the skin clearer, less shiny and simply healthier looking. It also helps detoxify, mattify and soothe the skin thanks to containing an advanced version of Vitamin C called Stay-C 50® that is shown to banish the look of imperfections with better efficiency than traditional chemical treatments, without the harsh side effects such as redness, dryness and irritation, along with botanical extracts, Canadian willow herb extract and wasabi extract that helps soothe and calm the skin.

The serum can be used AM and/or PM before moisturiser, or on its own without a moisturiser for those with particularly oily skin types, personally I've been using it with the Sheer Hydration on top . And I have to say that I am so impressed with this Jungle Brew, it truly is a magical brew, as already after a few days of using it, I could clearly see that my blemishes, including those stubborn ones I'd been fighting forever, were clearly reducing in size, looking less inflamed and healing up, leaving me with a skin that was much clearer and healthier looking, and unlike most other blemish products, without irritating or drying out my skin.

On the pesky spots, I did also use the Aspect Gold Stop Spot, which is a spot treatment designed to quickly and effectively target spots as they appear it contains among others niacinamide, salicylic acid (note that this means that this is not suitable for use for those who are pregnant or lactating!), and lemon tea tee oil and with ethanol, and aims to exfoliate the skin, soothe and mattify and dry out the breakouts without irritating the skin. This bottle is seriously tiny, but while it lacks in size, it still delivers a massive punch, and really does immediately go to fight those stubborn and problematic spots, to the point that I can literally feel and see it working within hours. And while sometimes it takes weeks for large breakouts to clear from my skin, with this little miracle worker, it is dramatically reduced, and again, without making my skin feel irritated, red or make it so dry it peels, as well as I also feel that the usual dark or red mark you usually get post-breakouts, is visibly reduced too. Unlike many other blemish treatments which often have a very strong chemical scent, this one has a lovely fresh citrus scent. My only gripe about this treatment is that that the treatment is a little runny, so you do have to be careful not to waste any product as you drip it out.

Finally, there's the Aspect Sheer Hydration Oil Free Moisturiser, an ultra-light oil-free non-comedogenic moisturiser, suitable for normal through to oily skin types. It helps add intense moisture to the skin, while soothing and mattifying the skin and improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles. That is just music to my ears. At the 'anti-ageing age group' with my breakout prone combination skin, I am always struggling finding anti-ageing products, as often they are simply too rich and heavy for my skin, quickly making my skin look and feel greasy, and make it congested. But this one is nothing short of amazing.

It contains a range of active ingredients from a form of hyaluronic acid to hydrate, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 to improve the apperance of lines and wrinkles, Canadian willow herb to soothe, calm and mattify, oil soluble vitamin C to lighten and brighten the skin, and Tocopherol to add antioxidants.

The moisturiser comes in a cool push-down pump jar, that makes it easy and convenient to use, and I also love the gorgeous subtle citrus scent. But more importantly, I love how this light moisturiser absorbs immediately into my skin without any greasiness, leaving it not only silky soft and mattified, it also has the most gorgeous radiant glow, that immediately makes the skin look so much healthier. And after continued use, my love for this moisturiser is only strengthened, as I can see how much it is improving my skin, making it look fresher and plumper too. When I use it at night, I no longer wake in the morning with a skin that is greasy, and used during the day, it makes my makeup look so much better, and stay put so much longer without sliding off my face. I'll be sad when this moisturiser comes to an end, but luckily its quite concentrated and you only need about a pea sized amount for the whole face, so the jar will last quite a while.

Overall I am really impressed and have enjoyed using this skincare regimen from Aspect, as I can clearly both see and feel how these products are working in synergy and have made such a significant improvement to my blemish prone skin, helping clear up existing breakouts and acne, prevent breakouts from occurring in the first place and thereby make my skin look clearer, brighter and simply more glowing and healthy. Highly recommended!!

PRODUCT REVIEW: BARRY M COSMIC LIGHTS, CHISEL CHEEKS, READY SET SMOOTH AND MOLTEN METALS

One of those brands fairly new to me is Barry M, so when a selection of their best-sellers landed on my door step, I naturally squealed a little...

Lets start with the Barry M Cosmic Lights Highlighting Palette. This pretty blue and purple cardboard palette contains 6 shades, four creams and two powders, with the creams to the very left and right, and the two powders in the centre. It also comes with a large mirror inside the lid.

The top powder has a pretty pink shade in the pan, and is quite glittery, while the one below is a very pale pink in the pan, but once applied it has an iridescent blue shimmer, which is very pretty, but sadly is not quite for me. Then there's the cream shades, the top left one is a pale pink, which ha a lovely natural sheen on the skin, while the one below, an even paler pink, has an almost purple iridescent sheen, which again, I am not too fond of. Moving to the very right, the top shade is a mid-brown shade, which when applied has a gorgeous golden shimmery look, while the bottom shade, a pale peachy-beige shade has a pale shimmery look, though still with golden and silver flecks.

Common for all the shades, creams or powders are that they are very pigmented, so you'll need to apply sparingly. Again, i am sadly not too keen on the blue effect, so my fave shades are the two more neutral and golden shades to the right of the palette, the darker one will be perfect on tanned skin, while the paler one, great for winter pale skin.

Anyway, these highlighting shades are great to use pretty much anywhere you like above your makeup, on the cheekbones, cupid’s bow and brow bones, or even on the decolletage or shoulders for a more luminous and radiant finish on a special night out. And considering the fairly large pans, and the high pigmentation, this palette is great value.

Then there's Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit, which is palette that contains three pressed powders for the perfect shaped and defined cheeks. The kit contains a light powder to highlight, a bronzer to warm, and a dark powder to sculpt the cheeks.

The palest shade is a slightly yellow tinged ivory shade that helps brighten and add light to the shade. The middle shade is a warm medium brown shade to add warmth to the face, and finally, to the right, a deeper and more grey-toned brown shade to shade to contour the face. All the powders are shades are matte, but with just a touch of sheen, which I quite like, and they are also pigmented, and easy to apply and blend with a large brush. For my medium beige skin tone the first two shades are ideal, while the last one is a tad too dark. Like the Highlighting Palette, this Contour Kit comes in a cardboard packaging that is convenient and easy to use and I like that inside the lid, where there would usually be a mirror, there how-to illustrations, to make it easy for everyone to use. Again, this is great value for money considering the high quality of this palette, so if you're after a budget contouring kit, this is really a great kit, worth checking out.

Next is the Barry M Ready Set Smooth Loose Setting Powder, which is a white very fine translucent powder that helps set your makeup, and give it a flawless and brightened smoother soft-focus finish. It also contains oil absorbing ingredients to stop the shine and mattify the skin and create a flawless, light-weight finish that’s suitable for all skin tones. This is intended to be applied over foundation. The powder comes in a little jar with an internal mirror and a sponge applicator, so its easy to apply on the go if you wish - though personally I do prefer to apply with a large powder brush. Having combination skin prone to shine by mid day, this is such a great powder, as it really does make my skin look shine-free for longer.

Finally, there's the Barry M Molten Metal Nail polish, which promises chrome effect shades with mirror shine foil finish that will look shiny for days. I tried in the shade Blue Glacier, which is a pale grey-blue shade with lots of tiny silver shimmer, and once applied, it really has a gorgeous shiny finish, with a colour that seems to change, depending on the light. Two coats did a good job, but for the perfect solid finish, I do feel that I need three coats. As the polish is so shiny, a top coat really isn't necessary, but obviously, it will extend the wear of the polish by a few days if you do add one. A gorgeous shade with a beautiful finish that you can only love!

Barry M Cosmic Lights Highlighter Palette - RRP: $18.95 / 4 x 2.8g cream, 2 x 3.6g powder
Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit - RRP: $16.95 / 7.5g
Barry M Ready Set Smooth - RRP: $14.95 / 5.2g
Barry M Molten Metal Nail Paint - RRP: $8.95 / 10ml

PRODUCT REVIEW: FILMS THAT DEFINE A DECADE

With two toddlers it is very rare that we actually watch 'live' TV these days. Though the kids have their set bed times, and technically it should mean that we can start watching certain programs, this just never happens, or we have just sat down and one of them will yell out for our attention so we miss the beginning of a show. Frustrating. And as I personally find it a waste of time watching something if I've missed the beginning, or part of it, we've come to rely on the likes of Netflix and watching movies on DVD or Blu-ray, as then we can simply start and stop whenever we see fit. And lately we've had so much fun and entertainment watching the newly released Films That Define A Decade, a collection of five DVDs/Blu-Rays that covers the 60s to the 00s, featuring the films that defined that particular decade.

The
Films That Define A Decade Collection includes;

60's - 'There has never been a decade quite like the ‘60’s! An era of change, conflict and hope, it will be fondly remembered for its revolutionary thinking, the fight for freedom of expression and its definitive slogan to “Make Love Not War”. With the movies;

  • The Birds (1963)
  • Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
  • To Kill A Mockingbird (1962)
  • Psycho (1960)

70's - 'They say the ‘60’s really happened in the ‘70’s. Bell-bottoms and disco took over, while films from the ‘70’s captured the free-spirited movement of the decade in many ways. With the movies:
  • Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977)
  • The Sting (1973)
  • Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1974)
  • Smokey And the Bandit (1977)

80's - 'The excessive ‘80’s…where everyone had huge hairdos and massive shoulder pads, mobile phones were the size of bricks and the movies were larger than life. With the movies;
  • An American Werewolf in London (1981)
  • The Breakfast Club (1985)
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
  • Ghostbusters (1984)

90's - 'The glorious ‘90’s…when grunge became chic and Spice Girls ruled pop culture. We witnessed the supersonic development of technology and welcomed the internet into our homes. With the movies;
  • American Pie (1999)
  • The Big Lebowski (1998)
  • The Usual Suspects (1995)
  • Casino (1995)

00's - 'The ‘noughties’ was a turbulent decade, with things seemingly changing faster than we could keep up with! Addictive social media platforms saturated our daily lives, and the innovation of technology made films more popular and accessible than ever before. With the movies;
  • 8 Mile (2002)
  • Gladiator (2000)
  • The Bourne Identity (2002)
  • Mamma Mia! (2008)

We are yet to every single one of the movies, but needless to say that several of the movies bring back lots of memories from the years they were initially released. And we've already each got a few favourites, mine including Breakfast At Tiffany's, 8 Mile and Gladiator, while hubby especially loves Ghostbusters, American Pie and The Bourne Identity!

Needless to say that there is seriously something for every movie taste here, and hours upon hours of entertainment, so make sure to check them out. They'd be the perfect gift ideas too, including for Father's Day next month!

PRODUCT REVIEW: JOHN FRIEDA FRIZZ EASE

Today I'm going to talk about the newly formatted and designed products from the John Frieda Frizz Ease range..

The John Frieda Frizz Ease range has been designed to help combat frizz to make women create the hairstyle they desire from curly to wavy, sleek and straight. There are many different reasons why hair becomes frizzy, and causes can range from humidity, rain, heat styling and hair colouring, but the John Frieda have thought about it all, with specific products for every concern, and today I'm going to talk about some of these products..

The John Frieda Frizz Ease® Miraculous Recovery® Shampoo and Conditioner have targeted Anti-Damage Technology that helps moisture and nourish the hair while repairing split ends and surface damage, in fact, it promises to reverse 75% of the surface damage on your hair, while also building a resilience to frizz over time for hair that is 3x smoother. The products have a gorgeous subtle warm fragrance that just gorgeous. These products are perfect for coloured hair such as mine, which always send to get a little frizzier during the winter months. However, since using this duo, I have noticed that my hair is not only feeling silky soft and smooth, I have definitely also seen a definite reduction in the amount of frizz that I get.

Then there's the John Frieda Frizz Ease® Extra Strength 6 Effects™ + Serum, which is a hair treatment that has the highest concentration of frizz fighters in the Frizz Ease range. It is enriched with silk proteins to fight frizz by blocking out humidity, tame and smooth coarse unmanageable hair, as well as work as a defence to weather and thermal protectant while heat styling for all hair types. Oh, and it hydrates dry ends to!. The serum is quite light and non greasy, but also very concentrated, so you only need to use a little ( I need two pumps in my long thick hair), but go slow, as if you use too much, your hair will end up greasy. It is best used in wet hair. It comes in a convenient pump bottle with a unique inner core, which does make it quite cool, but also bigger than it really is.

John Frieda Frizz Ease® Secret Weapon Finishing Creme is intended to be applied to dry hair, and immediately transform dry and parched hair into smooth, supple and shiny hair. The treatment creme helps replace natural oils lost due to blow-drying and daily stress, tear and wear of the hair, and it helps smooth dullness and split ends too. And as it also adds moisture to the hair thanks to the added avocado oil, and it leaves the hair looking glossy, it also immediately looks so much nicer and healthier too. I love the scent of this treatment, and that I can use it on the days I don't wash my hair to freshen up my hair. It is very concentrated so you only need a little, yet it is also super light, and non-greasy too, so it won't leave your hair looking greasy or weigh it down.

Finally, there's the John Frieda Frizz Ease® Dream Curls Styling Form. And let me start by saying that I normally have fairly straight long hair, although it for some reason, after my second pregnancy, has started going a little curly in the back, while the rest of my hair remains straight. At the moment, it is still more straight than curly (or guess I should call it curvy), but I have been experimenting a little with this styling foam that promises to help enhance and create soft touchable waves that look natural, and I really like the look of what it does to my hair, just very unfortunate that the front part of my hair remains straight! To encourage some waves in that part of the hair too, I have been trying to apply the foam at night, before putting my hair into a plait (which I always do at night as it is so long), and when I wake in the morning, it really looks great, with natural waves, that look healthy and shiny! I'll continue to experiment with this styling foam in my confused hair, but if you've got wavy or curly hair, you should check this one out. It smells absolutely amazing too!

John Frieda Frizz Ease® Miraculous Recovery® Shampoo - RRP: $15.99 / 250ml
John Frieda Frizz Ease® Miraculous Recovery® Conditioner - RRP: $15.99 / 250ml
John Frieda Frizz Ease® Extra Strength 6 Effects™ + Serum - RRP: $16.99 / 50ml
John Frieda Frizz Ease® Secret Weapon Finishing Creme - RRP: $16.99 / 113ml
John Frieda Frizz Ease® Dream Curls Styling Foam - RRP: $16.99 / 147ml

Available from Priceline, Woolworths, Coles, Target, and selected Pharmacies

PRODUCT REVIEW: BELLA BOX AUGUST 2017

Can you believe it, another month has passed, but thankfully it is now the last month of winter, so hopefully we'll soon start to seem some warmer and sunnier weather again. That said, it is time for the August Bella Box, which this month has the theme Bright and Beautiful..

Let's see what was in this month's box..

Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask - Sample, 13g - RRP: $69.90 / 58ml
My skin has been a little hormonal and temperamental lately so I'm very excited to try this mask. It contains among others Australian pink clay to brighten and detoxify the skin, leave the pores refined and the complexion glowing, which sounds pretty amazing to me. Need to find the time for that much needed pamper sesh!

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Oils - Full Size - RRP: $17.95 / 1.18ml
I love Burt's Bees, and I absolutely love these lip oils. I already have a few of them, including the shade I got in the Bella Box called Misted Plum, which is a beautiful red-pummy shade -I would naturally have loved a shade I haven't already got, but as its one of my fave shades, I definitely don't mind having a backup. I love that it is 100% natural and adds hydration to my lips, while giving them just a touch of tint.

GOSH Mono Eye Shadow - Full Size
The Danish makeup brand GOSH was one of the first makeup brands I used when I was growing up in Denmark, but unfortunately it is not available in Australia as far as I am aware. Apart from the sentimental values, I find their products fantastic and great value, so certainly happy with the inclusion of this eye shadow, which I know from using in the past is will be very pigmented with a good wear. I got the shade Aubergine, which as the name suggests, is a dark plum shade, which is beautiful, though it is not a shade I'd probably purchase myself, but may just have to push my comfort zone a little and put it to the test.

The Body Shop Nigritella Eau de Parfum - Sample, 1.2ml - RRP: $60 / 50ml
I have not used the Body Shop for the longest time, and don't remember ever using any of their fragrances, so happy to be putting this one to the test. The oriental orchid scent is a warm oriental scent which is quite lovely, though I tend to prefer lighter and fresher scent, but that said, it is perfect for winter use, plus the small sample vial is always great for popping into the handbag for touch ups during the day.

Garnier Skin Active Micellar Water - Sample, 125ml - RRP: $13.95 / 400ml
I already know and love this micellar water by Garnier, and actually currently using it, and have a backup bottle. It quickly and easily removes my makeup at night, without irritating my sensitive eyes, or drying out my skin. It is also fantastic value. The small bottle is cute, and great for travelling.

Bonus - Garnier BB Cream Original
- Sachet Sample, 1.5ml
Another fantastic Garnier product, which I already know and use, and have repurchased countless times, though sometimes in other skin varieties, but simply as I believe it is one of the better drugstore BB creams on the market

So there you go, this months Bella Box. From a novelty aspect, there was really only the Sand & Sky that was completely new to me, which is probably also why it is the product I am most excited to try - of course also because I've already tried, and also currently already using the Burt's Bees Lip Oil, Garnier Micellar and BB Cream. That said, I am excited about those products, as I would have repurchased all of them sooner rather than later, so they're great backups. Also love the inclusion of the GOSH eye shadow, but do wish the shade had been a more neutral one. But all in all this is really a fantastic box full of amazing products, so and if you haven't already tried these stable products you should do yourself the favour and get your hands on them. The full sized GOSH eye shadow, Burt's Bees Lip Oil and deluxe size Garnier Micellar, also makes this box exceptional value for money - really it is just the cost of the Burt's Bees Lip Oil, and the rest of the products can be seen as bonus products! Well done Bella Box.

Bella Box - RRP: $17.95 ($15.00+ $2.95 P&H) on a subscription plan, billed monthly, but you can cancel anytime
