PRODUCT REVIEW: PHYSICIANS FORMULA: CUSHION FOUNDATION, ARGAN WEAR BLUSH AND BRONZE BOOSTER

One of those drugstore brands I've got a soft spot for is Physicians Formula, not least to their always cute packaging, I mean who can resist gorgeously packed products!! Today I've put a selection of their products to the test..

Let's start with the Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free All-in-1 ABC Cushion Foundation. And I love Cushion Foundations. As someone who always prefers a liquid foundation over say a powder one, I just think that the whole concept is incredible. Most brands seems to have a cushion foundation in their range by now, but this one from Physicians Formula is definitely one of the prettiest ones with its turquoise quilted designed packaging.

And like all other Cushions I've tried, this one also have an internal compartment with an extra seal to ensure it doesn’t dry out, and it comes with a sponge to dose and apply. The foundation has a very light mineral formula and claims to be an all in one offering airbrushing, blurring and correcting properties, while also adding hydration to the skin and having a smoothing and firming effect.

The foundation has a light to medium coverage, which can be built up slightly, and thus does cover minor imperfections such as lighter pigmentation, blemishes and redness, though I do feel that I need to use a more heavy duty concealer to cover the massive dark circles under my eyes I've been sporting lately. But that said, I do love the dewy finish of this foundation and the fact that it makes my skin look very natural, and I can see myself purchasing this again.

Then there's the Physicians Formula Argan Wear Blush, which is so pretty thanks to its Moroccan inspired embossing of the powder. Absolutely stunning with a mix of pink shades with gold glitter. The gold glitter on top is luckily just sitting on top of the powder and once you’ve used it a few times, it is more or less gone, - although I have to admit to trying to scrape it off, as I have to say that I prefer it without the gold as I find it a little too much - well, at least I think it is on my ageing skin, and I much prefer just a subtle amount of shimmer and not the intense shine and glitter that the gold gives. The Neutral shade has various paler shades of pink with a brighter one in the centre. It is fairly pigmented, so you can easily build up the colour, while also blend it out to be quite understated and sheer. Once you get rid of the golden glitter on top, the blush gives you a nice but subtle sheen and a healthy radiance thanks to light reflecting pigments

The blush comes in slightly bulky gold plastic compacts, which includes a mirror and also a small brush hidden in a compartment underneath the blush. Personally I prefer applying blush with my own better quality and larger brushes, and I rarely apply blush on the go, so I would have preferred to see a smaller more slimline packaging and not have the brush included.

Finally, there's the Physicians Formula Bronze Booster, which claims to be a bronzer with benefits. These benefits are thanks to the Glow Activator Technology, which is an infusion of vitamins, moisturisers and antioxidants, including;

  • Kapi Kacchu, seeds and Phospholipids, that moisturises while helping extend the life of the tan glow
  • Ceratonia Siliqua, that works with the skin to naturally enhance a healthy-looking bronze glow
  • Vitamin C & E, potent antioxidants that help to improve skin's clarity and radiance

The actual bronzer is quite light and it blends quickly and easily and does give the skin a nice even and glowing, yet natural looking tan, that can be built up if required. To be honest, I am not really sure that I can really see that using the bronzer is extending the life of my tan, or improve my skin's clarity and radiance as it also promises... But regardless, the bronzer does wear quite well throughout the day, without fading or changing colour. Often I find that bronzers are either too matte or too shimmery and glittery, so I quite like that this one just gives the skin a nice natural sheen.

Compared to other products from the range, this bronzer comes in a very 'simple' compact, that is transparent brown, but with a sun symbol inside the packaging, which you'll also find embossed onto the actual powder. And while it is quite simple, it is still very stunning, and the bronze colour very appropriate. Like the blush above, it the packaging is slightly bulky to again allow for the internal mirror and the small brush that is hidden in a compartment underneath the blush. Yet again, I prefer applying blush with my own better quality and larger brushes, but guess, at least I'd be more likely to apply a bronzer on the go, so the brush could be useful in that case, though I'd still prefer a slimmer packaging and no brush included.

So there you go, a selection of Physicians Formula products. I really enjoyed using all, and will continue to use them, though the highlight for me was definitely the Cushion Foundation.
